19.1million pounds for a olympic statue, what a waste!

The designer Anish Kapoor said of the Tower: 'I wanted the sensation of unstability'

Well, what better way to achieve this than by creating something spiralling downwards, painted maroon and sited in East London?! Job done...

ermmm, the vast majority (£16m) is being paid by a private company, so good luck to them!

And it has some stuff at the top which will provide a revenue stream. I think they said a restaurant.

I actually think public art has a lot of benefit...even if it is not always tangible. For once, and believe me it hurts to say this, I'm with that blond haired fool who runs London.

Aside from the moral discussion about the alleged cost, I really like it and it will be a success.

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
I like some modern art and I don't like much of it. It is subjective, but I don't see how one can write that off as being ugly until they have seen it, walked on it and touched it.

Did any of the diagrams/proposals actually do justice to the work of art that is Falmer stadium?

What does totally inappropriate for it's purpose and location mean exactly? What would you rather have there? What is it's purpose?

I.

?

Yes, at no stage did it look anything other than an above average stylish new stadium.

I think I can make a decison on that thing in London without seeing it and touching it thanks.

Some people will complain about anything. Firstly, we all know that no one can design something that is universally loved. Secondly, it is more than just a statue which is clear from the description. It will last longer than the games and will be a tourist attraction. It will, as BoF says, create some jobs. It is being built mainly on private funds.

As regards the 2012 logo, what exactly is wrong with it. It does what it says on the tin!

This, but not surprising because most NSC'ers can't moan about too much Albion wise lately, so something else has to suffice.

since when has the NHS been underfunded? it gets loads of my money...Frankly I would rather spend tax payers money (which this isn't) on something that looks a bit crazy and invokes debate than a gastro band for a fatty or a nuclear weapons system that our own forces don't want.

I love a bit of public art, especially the kind that gets the whingers out!

Yes, and I am going to dump some old mattresses and car tyres outside my caravan and call it "public art", BoF.

Change your name to Tracy Emin or Damian Hurst and you'd probably be able to sell it for millions.

Changing your name to Damian Hirst might help.
