I was there in the North Stand. From memory he scored three of the four right in front of us. The fourth being a lay off from Robert Codner after both had broken clean through. Happy days.

I was living in London and waiting for the highlights to be shown on tv after the news. Unfortunately, this happened on the same day - 16 January 1991: US Air campaign begins against military leadership targets in Kuwait and Iraq (concentrating on Baghdad) - and the news went on for hours :(

Was there too - remember him running away with the match ball at the end, down the tunnel; legend has it that in his excitement he just kept running like forrest gump, out the main entrance door, onto the old shoreham rd and into the west. And that's why we never saw him again - perhaps the most bizzare football debut in any clubs history.

Newcastle were might in them days weren't they? With their 8000 crowds...:lolol:

jeez, 18 years ago!

I was there with a few mates in the north stand at the back just under the yellow co-op superstore sign.

It's those evening games that I miss the most about the goldstone - talking about the upcoming game all day at school, meeting my mates at the 5-ways, walking up the Drove, seeing the floodlights when we got to the bottom of the Droveway, dodging the dog shit across Hove Park, the match atmosphere and then chips on the way home. Brilliant.

The club talks about the Gillingham years and the 'lost generation'. I'd say that the whole awful Withdean experience is losing a much wider generation.
