A message to all the muppets on this link.

I dont normally write on these forums but i cant stop myself after reading the crap written here.

Did any of you (obviously not) ever go to a Palace v BHA match in the late 70s & eighties? If you had been there when the Holmsdale end was for the away fans, the whole end was full of Brighton fans and in the corner there would be a hundred or so Brighton Skinheads. All there would be was constant fighting.
In the 80s when the 'Casual' era was about, the same happened. It was not short of a riot. That's how it was.

Your obviously a bunch of city traders who live in Brighton who have tagged along on the exciting journey were on in the last couple of years.

A few young lads doing wanker signs at Palace fans is actually nothing in comparison to the old days. That happens in every day life.

Another point to the hard man calling the guy in the stone island jacket every swear word he could think of, is if you were so disgusted and thought the guy needed his face caved in, why didn't you go and do it yourself? I suggest your all mouth? Well plenty of it on this website but obviously not so much action at the time.
You obviously weren't watching the football & more interested in the crowd.

Another point to you experienced Brighton fans. Why would you take your 6 year old son to a Palace v Brighton game and be upset at swearing ? Not very bright i say.
I suspect none of you morons have ever been to a real derby match.
That was a tame derby.

Get a life

I think the problem is, yes, people were stupid to bring Childeren and then complain about swearing.
but

That does not stop the majority of people being disapointed by the behavior of some of the fans on Tuesday. For sure its 'to be expected' but people have a right to complain, and be disapointed, as not everyone has to act like a complete twat just because people used to knock seven bells out of eachother in the 80's over a sports team.

Its expected, but disapointing.

Wasnt saying its right but it happens all the time in general life and have people moaning about a few kids is pathetic. They should be thankful its not like its used to be but they wouldnt know that cos they never followed Brighton then.
One guy sounding very hard but didint seem to want to do anything about it.

I do despair when I read comments like yours! No it doesn't happen all the time, nor should it.
I've been watching the Albion since 1953 and went to all the Palace games in the 80's so I know all about the rivalry but its probably less than 5% who think like you. I really think you and your like minded friends on both sides need to grow up. Its a football match, not world war 3.

Youve just proved what an arsehole you are. You obviously never went in those times as you would not have just written what you did.Theres no comparison to last night and we should should be thankful.
My point was Its nothing like it used to be. I never said it should be or i want it to be just making a point that a few young kids swearing and making gestures at rival fans at a local derby is not worth stressing about.
You must have a really boring life. You probably sit at the Amex with a rug over your lap complaining about people if they shout.

Check youve got a pulse.

Nail is struck firmly on the head. A rivalry should be exactly that, not a pissy love in where 'shall we sing a song for you' is about as volatile as it gets.

Thank you for so eloquently proving my point that your idea of fun at a game is to be as rude and objectionable as possible. As you said you dont post often perhaps you could leave it a bit longer before bothering again as I presume the 25 in your user name refers to your IQ and not your age!

Virtually none of this is true. And yes, I was at Selhurst Park when we played there in the late 70s and 80s.

Thank christ for that, I thought I must have been going to the wrong games in the 70's and 80's cause I didn't recognise much of it either. Did get a 4 by 2 lump of wood wrapped round my head outside the ground once, just walking back to the station....

Just to say though on this one.
1) Swearing = fine
2) Abuse at Palarse players and fans = fine
3) Outside the ground, your life is your own, do what you want and take any consequences the OB etc wish to deal out.

BUT

1) Racist gestures = wrong
2) Abusing your own fans = wrong

Would usually agree with you but this kid was a f***ing embarrassment. He wouldn't have been able to fight his way out of a plastic bag, just a retard who had watched Green Street too many times... cringey!

Have been going to Palace since 71 and yes the old days were not for the faint hearted, nor were the old Goldstone away days I recall loads of fights donw in Brighton.

Your statement re Holmesdale is wrong am afraid

The whole of the Whitehorse end was full of Brighton fans thats the end with the white wall, the aways were always given that whold end if they expected a large number.

Palace V Brighton 1979

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CX75kiCoJBY

The only time the corner of the Holmesdale was for away fans when the awful Sainsburys was built, But can assure you Holmesdale was never ever totally full of Brighton fans unless you were playing Wimbledon or Charlton during those dark times

Couldn't agree more. Thats what put me off the Palace game the other night. It turns normal people into total pricks!! I much prefer having a beer with an opposing fan than giving him a slap. Football has moved on... shame the idiots who created this mess in the 70's / 80's haven't (and I know thats not all of you)

Completely this. I never got into football as kid so missed out on all the rucking and violence (thankfully). I much prefer matches where you can have a chat with the opposition on the train, go in the ground and abuse hell out if them, then meet them in the concourse for a beer after.

Maybe I'm a bit soft, but football violence solved nothing in the 80's, and it won't solve anything now. Enjoy the match and live in relative peace.

So the logic here is that it's perfectly OK to be as obnoxious and small-minded as you like - just as long as you're not as obnoxious and small-minded as people were 30 years ago? Or is it that it's OK for small numbers of people to be obnoxious and small-minded, because there won't be as many of them being like this these days?

Can someone explain to me how that works?
