A quick Google search indicates most of the £200,000 needed by 25 Jan 2018 is to cover player wages due on that date. It is rumoured that at least 1 player may have conservativley been on £130,000 pa until last summer.

Not sure why fans earning much less than players should put their hands in their pockets. If the £200,000 is not found, players are free agents to sign for other clubs without a transfer fee. Probably the worst that can happen to the club is that they have points deducted and are relegated one division if they go into administration.

Maybe this needs to happen to make clubs understand they need to live within their means if they haven't got a sugar daddy owner prepared to cover losses.

The other issue is that if the club actually manages to raise the £200k before the deadline, all that is going to do is cover the bills currently outstanding. What about February, March, April and so on?

The club either needs a new owner ASAP, or administration and allow the Fans' Trust to take over. If it is the latter scenario, they'd be better off holding onto any money they are thinking of donating.

Hartlepool United must find in the region of £200,000 in just 15 days to stave off the potential threat of administration.

And unless outside investment is found, or owner John Blackledge again dips into his own pocket to keep Pools afloat, the immediate future of the club hangs in the balance, it is understood.

On January 25, the club’s players and staff are due to be paid.

A number of other bills are also due on that date.

But, as things stand, the Mail has learned Pools do not have anywhere close to that kind of cash in the coffers.

As a result, they are at risk of defaulting on those payments and it is understood administrators could be called in.

The financial situation at the club severely worsened at the end of last year when owner John Blackledge, under the banner of Sage Investments, decided he had taken the club as far as he could.

It came after he had pumped what is believed to be £1.8m of his own fortune into Pools since acquiring it from JPNG and Gary Coxall.

Last month he put Pools up for sale.

And while the bills and payroll for December were covered, January has seen Pools struggle to meet financial commitments.

Alerted by reports of financial trouble at Victoria Park, Hartlepool Borough Council summoned Pools chief executive Pam Duxbury in for a crisis meeting yesterday to explain the state of play at the club.

You make it sound like the club has been overspending and the owner is fed up of bailing the club out, but if the club's been overspending each year, isn't that down to the owner?
