i thought it was tactical, as we weren't going to get any joy past that mountian of a defender.

Wasn't Darren Moore the other player? Went on to play in the top flight with West Brom. Absolute beast of a man, now captain at Burton Albion.

Didn't someone chuck a banana at Moore as he walked off?

i've always wondered if that person was planning to eat the banana later in the game or whether they had brought it along for just such an eventuality.

The one sour note of the game. Happily, it was the last banana I saw thrown at a black player - that charming little habit has died a death.

Is it time for STORRRRER yet?

You can only have respect for Baird for getting involved in fisty cuffs with Moore. I remember looking on in horror at the size of him but Baird went for it!

14 years ago, right now, I was sat on the grass, looking down, getting a wet arse and wondering if I would have a team to support next season.

I think now I trudging back to the station clutching the west stand seat I had sat in one boxing day to beat the palace!

I still have the piece of the perspex tunnel that Darren Moore punched out as he walked up it. Despite our four promotions since, that season still lives vividly in my memory - complete with shudders down the spine!
