£20k makes a colossal impact to a food bank. I've worked in the charity sector and every penny counts. That amount would probably fund the managers wages for a whole year for example

I'm not sure why this is either/or binary.

I wasn't prepared to pay the £15 all the time the club already had my ticket money for the game but PB has dealt with that excellently so I'm back in. However, I've also been donating to various charities in lieu of being able to sponsor my running mates which is what I did pre-Covid. Happy to give the next lot to a food bank which, as the OP says, is a good cause.

Would be great to have a sticky with the selected food bank to which we can donate. Suspect there will be lots of opportunities to do this through the season, so there can be a different one for each game.

A fine gesture by Newcastle fans. I'd happily donate to a BHA version as well. I would like to suggest an alternative charity though. Brighton Lions. By donating to them we'd help more than just food banks as they use their money to help a number of local charities ( including food banks ). Covid has presented them a challenge of more money needing to go out and less funds coming in. Examples of where their money has gone during the pandemic include :

> The Bevy community pub, provision of hot meals and essentials - £3000
> Time to Talk Befriending, a small local charity also providing meals and essentials, plus a friendly chat
> Sussex MS Centre had to spend £10,000 to re-open Covid-safe. Lions contributed £2000
> Emmaus were worried about paying for heat and light in their hostel for 54 homeless men. Lions gave £2500
> £500 each to Brighton Food Bank and Whitehawk Food Bank

Plus through Project Wenceslas Lions helped people in fuel poverty by settling debts, some of which were the result of people unable to work. No total figure currently available but was over £1k.

Just a suggestion. For complete clarity, I'm not a member of Brighton Lions but do support them with my time etc but my Dad is a member.

I'm all for this kind of thing - however it is all a bit 'show offy' isn't it. £20k to a single charity probably isn't as helpful as £5k to 4 charities if you see what I mean. I know if you do it for every game you can change the charity etc but really it should be something that just happens rather than willy waving 'who raised the most money'

The money raised is supposed to be to help clubs who aren't seeing any matchday revenue.
I can understand Newcastle and United fans wanting to boycott their clubs games as the purpose of this is to hurt the clubs owners.]
Newcastle still haven't refunded season ticket payments.

However the money is split between all clubs so in effect the 20k has had an impact of United and Newcastle not getting 1k.

In our club's case they have focussed on supporting local businesses and charities throughout the pandemic.
They have also offered to refund season tickets whilst facing a £20m hole in the budget from Matchday revenue.

I don't particularly want to give them a bloody nose, by making sure PPV is a failure.
If we can afford to splash out a good few million on Polish players who aren’t in Brighton and turn down £27m for White I’m quite sure the club will survive without your £15. Welbeck probably earns a week what most supporters earn in a year. We aren’t in lower league poverty anymore I have trouble feeling sorry for any PL club not grabbing even more cash of many cash strapped supporters.

Yeah i'm up for doing this and having the money go to better places than football clubs. Barber may have filibustered us into a more quietened discontent, but i would rather clubs of such wealth would have a different sense of decency in these desperate times.

This is a brilliant idea and sends two fingers to the PL clubs, who have used furlough money (our taxes), laid people of (yes you Arsenal) and still spend £10s millions on players and wages. So even if we all give a £5, which is what I think PPv should be - then that would be £150k to some good causes
