Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
I've used Giordano for years (had a couple last night) - never seen it on here before though.

The 12 piece porcelain dinner set looks ideal for a Greek plate smashing session. Can't knock the price.

The actual offer seems to be different from the original advert. Instead of the porcelain, it's got an additional bottle in a box, and the food differs slightly. Which did you order, Bozza?

The offer has been so successful that the wine merchant is all out of plates. We'll update the opening post with the revised offer which still, we think, offers great value.

Good spot! I got the new offer, which is probably for the best as we don't need the crockery and I was thinking I might just end up taking it to a charity shop. The extra bottle of wine and accessories will be more use to me! It might be wrapped up as an emergency present at Christmas for when someone unexpectedly give me something (probably a bottle of wine).

Agreed. Still a good offer and even more wine! I'm in.

How much is it to ensure NO Italian wine is delivered to my door  * **

* gives me a shocking headache
** except Amarone

Any good? I've just ordered.
Currently on my second bottle of the night. Highly recommended, and selection not available in supermarkets.

PS If I didn't already have an order in for 3 crates of their wine, I would be all over this like a rash :drink::drink::drink::drink:.

Vankleek Hill, actually....
"Thank you for taking the time to consider the offer but unfortunately it is currently unavailable in your area."

That's because I'm in Canada. Any way us ex-pats can take advantage of this offer? I wouldn't mind shipping this to my parents in preparation of my Chrimbo arrival. :)

I assume to get round this problem, I'll have to VPN using a UK proxy.

My brother is getting the box and accessories.... saves me a few quid for his present...he is rarely grateful anyway...

Mine arrived on Wednesday. Haven't touched a drop yet, but ate the pasta yesterday- was superb. May crack open a bottle of red later.

In my experience with wine you get what you pay for.

Very occasionally more.

More usually less...

If you're paying £5 for a bottle of wine, that equates to about 50p on the wine itself. £2.05 is duty, 84p is VAT, 83p is a typical retail margin, 55p is a realistic bottling cost and 23p a fair figure to allow for the distribution. Spend £8 and although some of those figures stay the same you're actually spending £2 on the wine - in other words, you might expect a product that's four times as good for just 60% more outlay.

We've got some great independent wine shops in Sussex: Butlers, Quaff, 10 Green Bottles, Hennings, South Down Cellars etc etc ... well worth seeking out at this time of year, regardless of how much you know about wine.

A good explanation of wine duty being a regressive tax. Champagne Socialists are alright, Jack.
