Some right old nonsense in this post. For one thing, we reached the Cup Final in 83 when in the top flight. Didn't stop 'cup fever' hitting the town did it? Even the early rounds against Newcastle and Man City (then an average side ) had good gates. And to say watching any Premier League team outside the top six is like watching Burton is ridiculous. Of course it isn't.

Towns!

But you're quite the 83 cup run was the greatest period in the clubs history. Even eclipsing the modern day Premier League era.......just.

In those carefree days each FA Cup tie would be very eagerly anticipated with the old regular First Division fixtures a bit of inconvenience to be honest.

But there is lesson here , the wave of emotion that embraced the whole of Brighton & Hove not just the Albion essentially cost them their top flight status (and the dreadful road to decline) imagine your captain desperately trying to get himself sent off during a crucial relegation fixture at the end of April. At one point purposely catching the ball.

Of,course the FA Cup and Final is now nowhere near the prestigious event it was in those days, when it eclipsed even the Champions League Final in stature.

So, an exit to Palace in front of 14,000 on the first Monday after the Christmas holiday will be totally forgotten about once we finish in 17th place in May.

I'm a bronze member and want to buy 2 tickets for me and a friend who wants to go to her first game. Computer says no. I can only get one, just added her as a Assigned Owner but still no joy FFS. Just want to support the team and bring a new face along. Gutted.

Can only get a guest ticket if you have a season ticket. Anyone else has to have a purchase history.........guess they’re not risking any of the goons getting in. Seems to be a lot of STHs on here not going judging by the comments - maybe one of them could find a way of helping you out....

Sent a text to someone about getting Palace ticket and he said he didn't have a clue about the procedure to getting tickets these days! So when the regulars can't be arsed to turn up we need to make it easier for others to get tickets or we don't I suppose.

A few more goons might solve the blight of Palace fans thinking they can do what they want at the fan friendly amexl:ffsparr:

Well if things turn out as it appears and we only get around a 20,000 ish attendance then it really does put our rivalry with with Palace in a different light.
I was straight online the second I could buy my season ticket seat for this game. I genuinely thought it would be big, playing our rivals in the cup 3rd round.
But what do I know? I guess it really is an honest gauge of just how far the fa cup's status has fallen, mixed with a few other factors for sure.
I'm surprised and a bit sad about it as it will show our rivalry to be something a bit 2nd or 3rd class compared to the likes of others I could mention. But then maybe it always was?

Same feeling from me. I've always loved the Palace rivalry ever since as a teenager going to the 5 pen Selhurst game. I don't feel any rivalry with the other south coast clubs. If the ground's half empty for this game I'll feel quite sad.

It’s not difficult at all (log on, buy, print) but arrangements for the visit of this lot are ‘special’......essentially only people who have been to games here before can get tickets.

if we don't get 20k+ for this it's an utter embarrassment to be honest. Our first season in the top flight since the 80's, an FA Cup 3rd round tie against our biggest rivals and a chance to get into the next round.

I've talked to Premier League 'fans' about our passionate rivalry with Palace, explained the history, told them stories about the hatred and i'll be utterly embarrassed coming back to them if they were to see thousands of empty seats on the box.

reserves, cold, £25, might be some loud bangs blah blah blah - some people need to switch to Bowls ffs.

How on earth can you not know how to get a ticket? Its possibly the most simple thing going.

Or just 'switch to' games that they actually want to go to.

Oh, they have [emoji38]ol:

Not everyone can log on and some find it difficult and some would just like to walk up to a human pass over coins and walk away with a ticket. As for purchase history the club need to get a grip it's only Palace ffs! The club seem to want to control every aspect of the football experience. I thought we were all stake holders or was that when we were losing millions ???

Can still go to the ticket office with your piggy bank if you want.......and I agree re Palace, but t’s always been the same at the Amex for Palace games. No history = no ticket.

I imagine this will be a slow burner and then lots of interest post Xmas - unless our results over Xmas are bad.

Personally, I haven't booked as it's down to finances, at a time when my bank account is running on empty!

I reckon had we drawn Man Utd or similar then the pony entrance fee and the cool Monday evening might have been a slightly lesser concern.

This. A footballing giant, rather than little Palace, would have drawn a huge crowd.

Playing a hated rival, just two months after the last game, isn't the attraction to many who simply go to ENJOY a game of football.

Genuinely surprised at your response.
I would need to be dead to miss this game :moo:

No I don’t. We get nearly 30,000 against the likes of Stoke on a Monday night.

Security issues? Seriously? How many Brighton fans were hurt at the last game? Zero? Are people really that worried? Have we really got that many fans who have only been going a few years and are that concerned about ‘security issues’ against our rivals that they won’t go to the game?

Lack of goals? Really? Our fans won’t go to a game against our rivals because we haven’t scored enough goals recently? That really is a depressing thought, if the Amex crowd is genuinely like that. We have thousands upon thousands of ‘fans’ who don’t understand what supporting a football club is about, if that is the case.

Lack of cash? Yeah OK, but in the relatively recent days people would have prioritised Palace in the cup against Bournemouth or Watford jn the league.

All in all, it’s a sad state of affairs. They might as well just ditch the FA Cup, as it is clearly dead and buried anyway. What a shame that is.

2005 under Maghee. We were terrible. Palace miles above us in the League. The last time, we'd been hammered 5-0. I'd been kettled with my missus and 2 young lads, not a pleasant experience. But I went, because I'm a Brighton fan. If I hadn't I'd regret it to this day.

So, choose to find an excuse. Pretend you have something vital to do on a Monday night in early January. Pretend you can't find £25 down the back of the sofa. Pretend the FACup means nothing to you. Pretend the Park and Ride isn't running (it is). Pretend the rivalry means little to you.

But, FFS, don't pretend you are a Brighton fan.

PG.

Great posts all of them. Depressing how out of touch with the normal Brighton fan so many of the posters on NSC have become. Nice to know some sanity remains.
