Some right old nonsense in this post. For one thing, we reached the Cup Final in 83 when in the top flight. Didn't stop 'cup fever' hitting the town did it? Even the early rounds against Newcastle and Man City (then an average side ) had good gates. And to say watching any Premier League team outside the top six is like watching Burton is ridiculous. Of course it isn't.
Towns!
But you're quite the 83 cup run was the greatest period in the clubs history. Even eclipsing the modern day Premier League era.......just.
In those carefree days each FA Cup tie would be very eagerly anticipated with the old regular First Division fixtures a bit of inconvenience to be honest.
But there is lesson here , the wave of emotion that embraced the whole of Brighton & Hove not just the Albion essentially cost them their top flight status (and the dreadful road to decline) imagine your captain desperately trying to get himself sent off during a crucial relegation fixture at the end of April. At one point purposely catching the ball.
Of,course the FA Cup and Final is now nowhere near the prestigious event it was in those days, when it eclipsed even the Champions League Final in stature.
So, an exit to Palace in front of 14,000 on the first Monday after the Christmas holiday will be totally forgotten about once we finish in 17th place in May.
