It should (but won't) act as a timely reminder to people to go out less often, stay at home as much as possible and find other ways to entertain themselves (and get drunk). What is concerning is how the pubs are still open at all. IMO the single biggest action we can take to control covid is to shut pubs. You can keep schools open, restaurants serving, even offices...but as soon as we permit drinking culture...people being too loose, the slipping of hygiene standards etc, we are welcoming CoVid back in to our lives. I love the pub, atmos, convo, banter...but it's chalk and cheese when social distancing comes in to the equation. Not conducive to each other. Like with VAR taking the emotion out of football, ordering my pint on an app and having it brought to me by someone dressed as a dental assistant makes me think I can live without. It's an unnecessary gateway to covid, unlike places of learning and worship, offices and even restaurants like I say.
Just scanning up the page and seeing a bit of debate about the track and trace system my take is this. Britain, like the US, is so advanced and extraordinary in it's 'cultural development' (aka individualist lifestyles) that the concept of socialism is pure fiction. And so Track and Trace is a mere gesture that operates on myth and fable. Plus there is so much cynicism / hatred / distrust in the gov atm how would you react if you got a text out the blue telling you to stay in for 2 weeks?
I appreciate the virus is prevalent in many areas of society but the general lifestyle of the pubbing enthusiast is a playground for Covid. No offence anyone, I love pubs, but if we brought in prohibition we'd probably see the back of covid in 6-8 weeks. All IMHO.

I still want to see "league tables" how many people a day are dying from cancer, drinking, obesity etc. when we hear numbers of people dying we have no context.
A quick google search says:
In 2019, there were 496,354 deaths registered in England, a decrease of 9,505 deaths compared with 2018 and the lowest number registered since 2016.
so thats 1359.87 a day on average.
So the numbers of Covid deaths are very low especially as they are also often in tangent to underlying issues.
This is why I am confused that we haven't taken as drastic measures on other killers - ie limit alcohol consumption (maybe by making it very expensive or no multipacks, offers etc) ban smoking, ban junk food, speed limiters on vehicles, whatever to stop so many people dying every single day.
However if people are dying because they are old or have underlying issues is that not also life? Call me evil but we all cant live forever.
Humans on the whole are greedy selfish individuals and you wont force someone to put themselves out for the good of others - thats why we over consume while the forests burn and the icecaps melt.
Is this a rant? getting that way - messy disjointed argument of a madman - I might run for office.....

1. No I am not. I'm perfectly aware of the difference between strategy and tactics.
2. I stated that the data was just data, and without a presenting long term strategy it was pointless just presenting the data alone. The question is what course the government is going to take. We are getting a bit of a picture today but it is still unclear.
What you're 'drawing the line' comment means, I have no idea. I'm simply saying that data and action are two very different things.

Apologies. I mixed you up with a poster from Shoreham who had more interesting things to say.
Anyhow back on track.
It’s simple or criticise from the sidelines without the pressure of thousands of screaming people - the clever part is coming up with better ideas. We are encouraged to contribute ideas where I work even though it’s not my job.
Thanks, but I'd probably prefer Johnson coming up with a "strategy" to you.
