No I don't get it either.

I would say Kevin Godley comes across as distinctly anti-American. Rubber Bullets was supposed to be a sarcastic pastiche of the 50s teen hit songs. Unfortunately the joke was lost on most, and there were just seen as shite.

Certainly lost on me, Godley may well come across as anti-American today, seems plenty are? :) but in 1972/3 it may well have been a different story to some young Mancunians?

Admit it it's only their love of cricket that makes you think they were good

Not that young, they were all old long time pros when they got together. Certainly in their late 20s by then.

I remember Godley being on one of those Saturday morning programmes in 1985 absolutely slamming the USA For Africa song, not for it (lack of) quality, but for all things he said he felt were wrong with America and Americans. Whatever, it as quite a rant.

And just to think, the first CD I brought was Greatest Hits 1972-1978, which I still play from time to time.

Sometime I just like to listen to something for fun, and pure daffiness.

Perhaps that was why it was Graham Gouldman who ended up teaming up with an American, Andrew Gold, in the group Wax, one of whose albums was:
