Not in Whitechapel
I may have posted this before. A brilliant cover in my view. The fact the singers are women makes it lime squeezed. Interested in @<u><a href="https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/member.php?u=29779" target="_blank">Whitechapel</a></u>'s comment.

Sorry for the late reply, I should hate that but I really like it. Less than 300 views in 2 years though, bloody hell that’s a deep cut!

Hip-Hop doesn’t really lend itself to covers, using someone else’s bars is frowned upon so two slight beats of cheating (and something that isn’t hip-hop at all)

An original that got a fraction of the views the cover got, but SPANKS the cover

And a beat that was taken and used much better by Brighton’s very own.

Does this absolutely spank the original?, no, the original cannot be bettered IMHO. But this instrumental version, by Rick Wakeman, who co wrote the song and performed on the original recording, is a stunningly beautiful version played as a tribute to his dear departed friend.

I've never much liked this song, neither the faux hippy throwaway pap of the Sonny & Cher original, nor the beyond dreadful Kasharoke cover by UB40 and Chrissie Hynde. Turns out that if you let Etta James sing it whilst backed by the Muscle Shoals house band, it sounds great.*

* - (To be fair, that may be true of nearly every song ever written).

This is a paint by numbers cover of the Thin Lizzy original that was on a bootleg CD that I stumbled across recently. Worth mentioning only because it seems so off brand for Belle & Sebastian. The solos are spot on and they do seem to be having a lot of fun with it. I'd imagine that it was great as a live show closer.
