I appreciate language evolves but, my God, this one is hard to take...

There's language evolving and then there's mass 'getting it wrong', the latter of which is infuriating.
What's a succinct way to describe the grammatical error here?
"Vinyl in this context is used as an adjective and is short for 'vinyl record'. It's not a noun and, as such, cannot be plural (or singular for that matter)."

I stopped reading after 'vinyls'.

:lolol:
In the sentence she seems to separate ‘vinyls’ from records, so is it not possible that she’s talking about many floorings or the roofs of many Mark II Ford Capris?

seems fine to me. maybe because it's how one refered to vinyl records in the 90's, to distingish from a CD or cassette record.

or should that be a recording? nope, so we dont need to make a fuss about vinyls. perfectly cromulent.

I told my postman I was having some vinyl delivered & if I'm not in to make sure it's put somewhere shady. His 1st question was, How much vinyl? My reply was 3. His next question was, How big are they? My reply, The large ones. I was somewhat confused when he said he'd try to get hold of the van driver doing the round & tell him as he doesn't deliver things that big. He thought I meant 3 rolls of flooring. 🧏‍♀️

People referred to 'vinyls' in the 90s?!

Can't vouch for the 90s, but in the 00s it was definitely what was said.

This thread is the first time I've ever heard that some people don't think it's acceptable.

I think I'm going to continue to refer to them as "vinyls" because "10,000 vinyl" would just sound weird.

Never heard that before. A marvellous word, which I will be using forthwith.

Never know what one will learn on NSC 👍

'Records' is the word you're looking for.

Old Gen X here. I still say record / disque for 33s, 45s and 78s, but Millenials refer to vinyls / vinyles. That's a grammatically acceptable construct -- the substantive adjective.

Examples: deliverables, highs and lows, reds and yellows, drunks, diabetics, vegetarians, the few, the sick, the rich, the poor...
