Pfff...

NHS staff in Scotland are to be offered a pay rise of at least 4%, the Scottish government has confirmed. Nurses, paramedics and domestic staff are among those who could receive the boost to their salaries. Health Secretary Jeane Freeman says the offer - which does not apply to doctors - recognised the "service and dedication" of staff during the pandemic. The settlement will be backdated to 1 December 2020 in recognition of an "exceptional year of significant pressure". The rise is higher than the 1% increase proposed for some NHS staff in England.

Good job the Scottish Government gets all those subsidies from us, eh?

Yeap true, but at the moment all that matters to the SNP is the UK government look like they don't got give a stuff about NHS workers, and with a proxy Indy ref coming up in a few weeks they will be making hay of this

For a government that lives in campaign mode I really don't know why they didn't offer a one off appreciation bonus for the last year, would have gone down well with NHS staff and the wider public

But there is money to pay NHS workers properly, that's the point

Divide and rule

Government expenditure per person in Scotland: £11,566.
Government expenditure per person in England: £9,604.

Thanks to the subsidies from England, the Scottish Government has more money to chuck around - and it gives them the chance to score political points like giving their nurses a bigger pay rise.

people should ask their MP, mostly conservative round here, why the increased health budget is not going to increase nurses pay. that might lend some weight.

So the government are giving you a raw deal. Why shouldn't all NHS workers be paid a fair wage ?

Total electioneering from Ms Liar and her troop of nasties....she would sell her should (well she has already) for the cause....obnoxious, disreputable and immoral government of incompetence and non fiscal sense.....

We have a chat]nce on 6th May to put her and her bigoted/racist government to the sword....here's hoping sense prevails up here.

They should. As should delivery drivers, care home assistants, shop workers, etc.

That's nothing to do with the subsidies going to Scotland enabling the Government there to pay their NHS workers a bigger rise - and making political capital out of it ("Vote SNP for better wages for the NHS")..

It seems that the UK government is set to continue the scandal of commissioning Serco and other private companies to run the test and trace service. £37billion of taxpayers money is being given to this service—the figures are almost too large to comprehend.

To help, consider that the total annual NHS salary cost is around £47 billion, which amounted to 44.9% of the NHS budget in 2018/19.

A 5% pay increase for the whole of England’s NHS staff, as opposed to the 1% on offer to nurses, would cost only £1.7bn.

It is hard to believe that there is not an element of corruption with such large amounts of money disappearing to “consultants” or private companies.

test and trace is run by NHS, the money is being spent on test. quite right this needs to stop, it wont all the time people peddle misinformation that ministers can ignore. ask the real question to local MPs, where is the general NHS budget (not test and trace) being spent and why is more not on nurses.
