Ok - so why aren't all the big 6 clubs fighting over this £100m superstar?

I'll hazard a guess if Arsenal got him for 'only' £40-45m the other 5 clubs would be seriously kicking themselves.

Only one club think he's a £100m player.

Zaha is a great player but £40-50m is probably what he is worth. Wilf himself knows none of the top 6 have an interest in him except for Arsenal now that he has basically said "please come and get me".

He wants away from Palace and it is all turning sour for the sorry Surrey outfit.

Apparently according to the "secret footballer", if a player is under contract the club he is under contract to pay off the rest of his contract, unless he hands in a transfer request. That's why so many players are reluctant to hand one in because they lose their contract money.
My understanding was that players often have loyalty bonuses - payments they get each year for staying with the club - and these get paid up when they're sold (unless they hand in a request). Signing on fees (also applicable to contract extensions) can also be spread over the term of a contract, and paid up in the same way. Not the whole bloody contract though.

So loss of the bonus can be a reason why a player wouldn't hand in a request, but the main reason is that they don't want to fall out with the fans and teammates. They don't normally need to hand in a transfer request, they just let the club know they'd like to move.

That said, the 'secret footballer' will sure as hell know more about these things than me. Have you got a link to where he said that?

That's why so many players are reluctant to hand one in because they lose their contract money. It also explains why Zaha told Palace he wants to leave, but didn't actually hand in a transfer request. But presumably it would have a knock on effect on the transfer fee. If a player hands in transfer request and the club no longer have to pay off his contract then presumably they don't need to ask for as much money.

Mmm, and his contract is still worth an eye-watering £24M over the remaining 4 years. If he waves that, he'll probably get his move for around £45-£55M - otherwise, he ain't going nowhere.

Arsenal have bid about £40m. That's not made up. So if other clubs would be kicking themselves, then they should now be making offers. Either they'll get a bargain, or they'll make Arsenal (their rival) have to pay more.

If he really is worth a lot more, other clubs will bid (and I'm not saying that won't happen, but it doesn't seem to have yet).

So Palace have been offered £40m. They pay Utd £10m of that, and Wilf £24m, leaving them with £6m.

Somehow I don't think that's realistic.

Liverpool are watching developments with interest , Klopp really rates Wilf . The price will significantly rise in the coming weeks .

If you get sold you don’t get your contract paid up at all...? It gets torn up and you get a new contract at your new club. Hence the likes of McCormack who were happy to not love and just play reserve football while on silly money...

Edit - just seen your post below - my take on it was always you don’t get any of your contract paid up unless you were going to be earning less at a new club and the selling club offered a pay off type thing to get you off their books? Only way it’s all paid is if they want the player to be a free agent and they can’t agree a % settlement?

Quite - that's the reason why they are 'insulted' by the offer. £80M means £20M to United, whatever the agreed pay off is to WZ (I agree I doubt it will be the whole contract but it will be a reasonable sum if he hasn't "asked" for a transfer) leaving probably somewhere between £40 - £50M in the skyrocket.

I still think this will boil down to WZ waving his right to any money from Palace in order to get his move. Nobody will pay what Palace value him at, it just depends on whether or not they are prepared to have a sulky brat on their hands if they stand firm. My guess is, they won't and he will leave for less than they want for him - eventually.

I don’t really care what silly fee he goes for - losing him will be a huge, huge blow for you lot...

How the **** can a British man in his 30s not know that a Nazi salute is a, well, Nazi ****ing salute?

Of course he did. No sane person would be believe his ridiculous defence. Except that the FA comprises senile old blazers just about old enough to remember the colonial days when being a racist supporter of a right wing organisation was just about ok. If the FA was serious about stamping out racist attitudes in the sport, that was their opportunity to do it.

And let's not forget that Dougie thinks its ok to use the word "Reich" in his BBS username. We had one of those on here and their name got changed. But then we are a class above

There will be a clause - they're usually called "loyalty bonuses" - which reflect that the player didn't "ask" to leave. Hence the lack of a transfer request, which would waive the right to a "bonus" that the selling club has to pay.

Unfortunately I read it in the book so haven't got a link. It kind of makes sense though, if you're contracted to someone and they sell you they're terminating your contract, which is why they have to pay it up. Where as if you hand a transfer request in, you're the one ending the contract.

Ah ok - I edited my reply above but get what you mean. How sure are you on that as you appear to know your stuff?

Indeed. Never heard suggestion of it being paid up before.

We’ll be ok .

What’s OK though? The Orem is a load of shite on the whole isn’t it..? I’m bored of it already - I don’t want ya to go down as the thought is horrible but the journey was so much better than the destination. We’ll prob do better this year against teams around us but if we go out and try to play expansive football against the big boys we’ll get some thrashings this year...

If any of the big clubs seeking him are clever what they should do is offer £50m and a decent accountant.
