A couple that may add up, Didn't we get a fair bit for Mike Small? The Only decent trade Barry Loyd did. And similar for other one season wonder Kurt Nogan?

This is as definitive a list as I think we will get. Obviously some of these fees were officially undisclosed, so there is some guesswork involved, but I explain how each figure is arrived at (predominantly using what was reported in the media, either at the time or subsequently).

**There has been no attempt to adjust these figures for inflation.**

July 2014: Leo Ulloa - £8million (using the Argus' reported fee, and assuming the transfer goes ahead)
1Jan 2014: Liam Bridcutt - £3.5million
2Jun 2011: Elliott Bennett - £2million
Jul 2003: Bobby Zamora - £1.5million
Jul 2005: Adam Virgo - £1.5million
3Jul 2012: Grant Hall - £1.5million
4Feb 1997: Gareth Barry - £1.05million
5Aug 2012: Craig Noone - £1million
Aug 1981: Mark Lawrenson - £900,000
6Jul 2013: Stephen Dobbie - £850,000

Notes:
1Johnny Cantor tweeted that Bridcutt's fee was £3.25million plus add-ons. El Pres, on here, subsequently stated that there was £250k due if Sunderland avoided relegation.
2The initial fee for Bennett was widely reported as £1.5million. The Argus reported that it could rise to £2million depending upon appearances and Norwich avoiding relegation. In June 2013 the Argus reported that Bennett's sale had already generated "almost £2million" and that the package includes a sell-on clause.
3The Sun reported that Tottenham had agreed to pay £1.5million compensation for Hall; I have seen no other corroboration for this figure.
4The final figure agreed between Villa and Albion for the compensation due for Barry and Standing was £1.1million. Given that only £50k had specifically been paid for Standing at that point, and that Barry was the established first-teamer, it leaves a figure of £1.05million for Barry.
5The Argus reported the fee as £1million, although there have been other suggestions that there are add-ons and the figure could eventually reach £1.5million.
6I have seen numerous figures mentioned, but the Daily Telegraph reported the fee as £850k.

As for other players mentioned in this thread:
Ashley Barnes fee is currently around £600k (a Burnley fan posted on here that it was 400k up front, 200k dependent upon appearances, and £150k if Burnley were promoted. Although this is uncorroborated, it would seem strange to go to the trouble to make up such figures, and it would also help explain why the fee has been variously reported at 400k and 750k).
Mark Beeney earned the club £565,000 (£350k up front and the rest in appearances at £5k per appearance).
Dan Harding's fee ended up being £500,000 (£450k up front and £50k in appearances).
Andy Ritchie was valued at £500,000 in the exchange for Terry Connor.
CKR earned the club £431,250 (£150k initial fee and a further £281,250k as a result of the 25% sell-on fee when the Blades sold him to Fenerbahce)
Michael Robinson was sold for £200,000

Given adjustment for 'football inflation', I've always thought of Mark Lawrenson as our most lucrative export.
