You're absolutely right and I was just using a very top line comparison.
However, I just had a quick look at the Championship table from the years Maupay was at Brentford and they finished 9th in his first season (scoring 62 goals) and 11th in his second season (scoring 73 goals). While they...
I completely agree. I really rate him and think he will have a good season and continue to be a vital part of our team. But, if you listen to some on here, you'd think he was completely useless so it's ironic that they want a player who has a worse scoring record in the Championship to replace him.
Armstrong's Championship record at Blackburn - 130 games and 49 goals
Maupay's Championship record at Brentford - 85 games and 37 goals
So he has a worse goal to game ratio in the Championship than Maupay, who many on here seem to think is useless. Quite possibly a lot of these people are...
Interesting timing for Ostigard move. We could have done with an extra central defensive option for the weekend. Surely we could wait until the end of the month and loan him out then if we're well covered in the position.
I hope he's not going to be another like Clarke, where we continually...
Shame if we don't get to see Khadra this season, as he seems to have promise. However, I do understand him having a season in the Championship to get regular first team football.
What I do find odd is we're doing it now, when we're short of attacking players who are available. Why not wait...
I'd agree with that list. Feels like it is a bigger list than at the end of last season weirdly because we have sold White and let a few players leave who might have been involved.
Alternative to a centre back is a right/right wing back to free up Veltman to play centre back the whole time
Agreed. I found this really odd last season when they voted for this but not for five subs being allowed on. It seemed a very odd middle ground which doesn't really benefit anyone.
For me you should either have seven subs and you can bring on three or nine and you can use five of them
We don't even know we are spending time on this one. All the confirmation we've had from the Albion side is Naylor saying we "maintain an interest" and then lots of random Twitter info. For all we know we've moved on to other targets, or we never were focusing on him this summer.
Except we had this problem when Hughton was manager too. We didn't sign a striker when everyone thought we needed one in the promotion season and still went up. We didn't sign a striker when everyone thought we needed one in the summer of our first Premier League season and we stayed up (and our...
Good news if true. Getafe were clearly only going to sell if we did (the same as we wouldn't sell White to Arsenal until they met our valuation). Really hope we can sign him as it's one of the two positions we clearly need a new signing in (although we might want one or two more on top of those...
Disappointed with missing out on him but, if Lamptey is fit, he may not have played a lot and the buy back clause is a bit off putting. If he does well, we have no control over his future, which would be frustrating. We will see how big a miss he is and how quickly he gets into Southampton's team.
Seriously? Lyon sold him after one season. Fair enough Andersen is a decent defender and I think he's a good signing for you considering you conceded 66 goals last season. We conceded the level fewest goals in the bottom half and fewer than Leicester in fifth and West Ham in sixth. To say a...
When he signed for us, I am sure he'd have done his research and known our strongest position was probably central defence with Dunk and Duffy playing every game when available. Goldson and Hunemeier both left the summer he signed as they weren't getting regular games so he shouldn't be...
Agreed. It's amazing how far we've come since then.
I did wonder if someone higher up the table than Arsenal would come in but maybe they are seeing if he develops as they'd hope. The top three or four clubs can afford to wait until a player gets to 26 or 27 and see if he has developed rather...
I'd be surprised if nobody signs Armstrong this summer. He's done well in the Championship and deserves a chance in the Premier League. Not sure whether it should be us. Maybe one of the promoted teams are more likely to try to sign him.
I still think we're more likely to sign a striker from...
Or to look at it another way, two signings who got relegated from the Premier League last season, two who have never played in the Premier League before (one of whom is out injured for three months) and a final one who will never play unless you have an injury crisis.
I am not saying you won't...
