Just upgraded from a cheap Silva one to the Petzl imo core which is much more comfortable, powerful and is rechargeable but with the option of using regular batteries

    [Politics] The Labour Government

Also, it doesn't have to be taken as a one off lump sum anymore, if you have a drawdown pension instead of an annuity you can get 25% of the regular withdrawals tax free up to the Lump Sum Allowance maximum, this is very helpful for keeping funds invested for as long as possible and helping the...

    [Politics] The Labour Government

No, my point was, those of us with a pot between £400k to £1M are not the ones they were supposedly targeting.

    [Politics] The Labour Government

I thought they were supposed to be going after those who could afford it the most. If that were the case then they shouldn't even be looking at this as those who can afford the most are those with a pension pot over a million who already have their tax free cash capped - this initiative would...

    [Misc] Bucket lists

Funnily enough that was originally on the list before I started my current crisis but then I ran my first marathon in Manchester followed by London and decided that I didn't really want to continue with road marathons, because of the amount of time and training required to run them as well as I...

I like this, I've already rented a Caterham which I'd always wanted to own but decided wasn't a sensible purchase given the amount I'd use it

    [Misc] Bucket lists

TL: DR - Give me some bucket list ideas I'm currently in the middle of a full on existential crisis (don't want to call it mid-life crisis as that would be admitting that I'm getting old!) and have been thinking about the things I want to do bring some meaning to my life outside of family and...

    [Misc] Retirement

Having spent the last 3 months looking at iht, CGT and chargeable gains calculations for the fintech I work for, I can safely say if you don't have a lot of time to invest in understanding all the rules then a decent 'financial planner' who can do cash flow modelling (not just any old ifa) is a...

    [Food] The Barbeque Thread

I have had an old Barbeskew II for years that is still going strong, shame they don't make them any more but very glad spares are still available, can't beat a bit of hands free barbecueing while drinking beer!

I have also used the following occasionally: Zwift, MyWhoosh and Fiit For more generic social media I have had a bit...

[Finance] Premium Bonds - prize pool increased again - you ever have any luck?

Can't give any advice other than don't tie up money you are going to potentially need in the short term and avoid the CFD bit of trading 212, it's basically gambling and is how they can afford to have such low fees

[Finance] Premium Bonds - prize pool increased again - you ever have any luck?

I guess tax free returns might be a positive for someone who wants a secure cash investment, has maxed out all other tax free options like ISAs and pensions and is a higher rate taxpayer, but personally even then I think I would rather pay tax on a return of 7% than no tax on a return of at best...

[Finance] Premium Bonds - prize pool increased again - you ever have any luck?

Yes, although I'd hope you'd have more than £100k after some sort of return on the initial investment!

[Finance] Premium Bonds - prize pool increased again - you ever have any luck?

I tried to keep it fairly simple to illustrate the point of how poor premium bond returns are over long periods of time. I'm not advocating everyone throw every spare penny they have into investments but i think premium bonds and cash savings accounts are a poor choice for any long term...

[Finance] Premium Bonds - prize pool increased again - you ever have any luck?

Reading this thread is scary, have you all maxed out your investment ISAs?! This chart shows the investment returns of a variety of indices, adjusted by CPI, for a £10k investment over a 10 year period. As you can see, £10k held in an average 90 day notice account for the last 10 years would...

Started early with a couple of pints at lunch in the Lyric in Soho followed by a couple of swift halves in the Waterloo Tap on the way home, think I'm becoming a lightweight as I might be done for this Fridat!
