Yep, credit to the Liverpool fans there. I may be doing them a massive disservice but I was taken aback by that; surprised at the the unanimous nature of the applause. Hat off to them.
Just another little reminder that life is bigger than football n
My heart goes out to him, and to anyone who loses a baby.
I thought my son had died during his birth for several minutes - he was born in theatre, and without going into the graphic details looked utterly lifeless and did not breathe on his own accord for almost 10 minutes; long enough to have...
What's interesting is that England's group does look straightforward at first glance, but in the worst case scenario (in terms of FIFA ranking) and Wales qualify, the average rank of our group opponents is 18; the highest of any Pot 1 team. The next toughest being Group D, which has an average...
No doubting he’s a bit of a prick, but there’s something I quite like about his style. In a world of sport and in particular tennis, where the way people act and speak is so polished and manufactured, it’s nice to see someone prepared to be themselves.
Even if his natural personality is, as you...
Is this the beginning of the end for this war? I sincerely hope so.
I can see ‘Ukraine’ being used as a common analogy for overcoming adversity in the face of a seemingly ‘greater’ opponent, for centuries to come. David versus Goliath. The Alamo. Ukraine. Super-human levels of patriotism and...
Of course it is, but money is addictive. She’s not yet 26, so is probably no more than half-way into her career under normal circumstances. Her official career earnings (from prize money alone) are circa $23m (US). She could easily double that - and with sponsorships etc. you could probably...
They can fúck you up, your parents. It’s something I try to remember when bringing up my own kids; I don’t always get it perfect but my aim is to leave them with as many happy memories, and as few unhappy ones as possible. I don’t think it’s a bad way to look at parenting.
England v Switzerland, the opening game of Euro 96.
A special day I’ll never forget. My dad managed to get hold of some tickets for my 11th birthday. I’ve never been so excited about a football match in my life. My first time in the big smoke, we were on the first train out of Grimsby, we...
I almost made a major fúck up on our last proper family holiday to Mexico in 2019. Boredom saved me.
To get into the country, you need to complete an immigration form, which you can complete on arrival, as well as online. Due to said boredom, I thought I’d have a go at filling it out online...
Hope there's a quick answer to this. Essentially, I'm trying to complete an ESTA application for entry into the US, however I've reached a stumbling block. The form asks me for my passport issue and expiry date, the correct answers to which are 29th May 2018 and 29th July 2028 - ten years and...
Indeed - very well put together. I must say, I've massively ramped up my respect for the FT as a publication since the beginning of the Corona-crisis; it it comfortably led the way then in terms of measured reporting and it's been excellent once again in these troubling times.
Thanks for sharing!
Not seen it discussed much on here, but the BBC is reporting survivors emerging from the bombed theatre in Mariupol which was acting as a makeshift bomb shelter, and had the word CHILDREN written in Russian across the front of it.
I really hope it’s a lot of people, as there were apparently...
