I've taken some time to reflect on this and you're right it was PIFFLE. Companies do ring you and sometimes with very good reason. But if you're unsure, I highly recommend ringing them back on a number which you've checked online first. Less piffly?

One scam I'm not sure many people know about are the gumtree/facebook marketplace ones. People offer to buy the thing you're selling at the full price. Then delay, then make excuses about their paypal or some nonsense and it ends with them asking you to transfer cash to THEM via Western Union.
