I have rummaged around Wikipedia for the origin of the term but there appears to be no definite answer. Strangely enough there seems to be no explanation re other than suggestions that it is linked to grouse hunting!
Car number plates used to be raised and guess the change came around "J" reg 1967 or there abouts when the yellow and black lettered plates on yellow appeared.
Have yet to see this in service but have seen it as "work in progress" over the years and as a finished article looking magnificent in the yard at the Park. Very modest donations made by me of railway books and stuff which hopefully funded a few rivets for them.

My mission when shopping is to locate orange stickered products (mainly bakery) marked down products for the Potting larder or freezer. I find this very gratifying.
