For the purposes of balance, the reason the UK government lost access to a high performing civil servant is because she resigned from the Civil Service in March 2023 to take up a job offer to become Chief of Staff to the Leader of the Opposition, Sir Keir Starmer.
Do it TC, you won't look back. The sheer joy of being able to avoid 'other people' and how they unthinkingly inflict their shit on everybody around them is exactly why I live in the middle of nowhere. (Last evening, just the distant sound of deer bellowing at each other, plus owls. That's the...
On reflection, I think I agree with you on this. If doing the MOTD Saturday night gig means that Chapman gives up his 5Live commitments, that would be a huge net loss.
Chapman is a truly gifted radio presenter and understands the medium perfectly. If doing MOTD means we lose him from the 5-6...

I don’t like the way that over-excitable Geordie commentator on 5 Live pronounces his name (“Referee Khooot”), so if he has to step down, it’s not all bad.
No doubt. But I’m glad he’s decided to call it a day. It does seem that these past few seasons he’s just going through the motions, which is to be expected after 25 years.
Plus with every passing week he does look more and more like a tortoise that’s been dressed in a tight black shirt.
This would be the obvious and common sense scenario. In fact I actually prefer the dynamic that Chapman has with the pundits on MOTD2 in comparison to MOTD which can feel all a bit too chummy at times.
…how about something a bit German…?
