[Humour] Comedy's that have aged well and those that haven't

The Liver birds and Bread were indeed utter shite. Butterflies however..... Maybe its because I watched it when living abroad and the nostalgia factor, er, factored. Loved it.

Such a shame. That was a great series and Fox was excellent in it. Our Kev is officially retired now. As is David Suchet. I'd love another slice of Lewis and Poirot.

f***ing Jules Holland. Unwatchable programme with one half-decent act book-ended by the likes of Seasick Steve and Tom Jones. Yuck.

[Humour] Fawlty Towers Apollo Theatre London

I must have mentioned that in the late 80s and early 90s I worked with a Spanish cardiac surgeon who was comparing small mammalian hearts for resistance to cardiac ischaemia. One morning I was chatting with him and out of the corner of my eye I saw a movement. One of the small mammals had...

[Misc] Advertisement. Everywhere. All the time.

Interesting about our ads being skreechy and US ones being subtle. When I lived in Canada in the early 80s the TV ads (American TV) were diabolical. All shouting. Whereas in the UK when I left they were all white and smug. Perhaps when it comes to capitalism the US is ahead of us. Hard to...

I love the meercat ones but it turns out there is no meerkat website, so I think the buggered that campaign up somewhat.

I once would only watch and listen to BBC to avoid ads. Football on Sky put an end to that. I now enjoy taking the piss out of the gamboling adverts. And I do it responsibly. I always know when to stop (when the ****s have *****d off) I draw the like at radio ads so only listen to BBC.

The modern reboot written by Mark Gatiss is bloody brilliant.

I know. I loved the shocking first LP but was shocked by the cruelty in the others. (Incidentally I am obsessed by a Christmas thing. Not a comedy, but The Box of Delights. Pure nostalgia for the early 80s, crappy special effects, and an imaginary England that always seemed beyond my grasp...

Love the Hickson  I'll be specific about Morse. The character made lots of patronizing comments to the female pathologist (Grayling) and it grated (for me). That said, overall the series is magnificent. It is a pity they filmed it using cheap tape kit. It looks so tatty and blurry...

Absolutely. I used him as my user pic till recently. And the first Watson was far superior to the second. In the first series Brett was at his majestic peak. When Hardwick was Watson, he had big bags under his eyes and some of the mad spark had gone. Reminds me of Mourinho's first vs second...

[Misc] Who lives in a house like this ?

Incidentally, there is a new series of Grand Designs. What a brilliant programme that is. Does it have its own thread I wonder? Last night's met again the couple from the first ever episode, filmed in 1998. A house in Newhaven (high up). They still live there, bless them. Mrs T had a tearful...

[Humour] Comedy's that have aged well and those that haven't

I think nostalgia can cover a multitude of shortcomings, though. Different genre, I love Inspector Morse because it was on when I was visiting Oxford for work, and I love a crime thrilla, and the characters are great, and it takes me back to an exciting time in my life..... but... Morse's...

I loved butterflies, but it is a whimsy rather than a comedy. Aged well: League of Gentlemen; Black Adder, Hitch hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Red Dwarf; Hancock's Half Hour Aged badly (disregarding obvious shite such as Mind Your Language): Monty Python; Whatever happened to the Likely...
