    [News] Caravans at Waterhall

Mine was a bit of a cheeky and ironic post. I understand what you are saying. One of the local golf clubs around here paid off some travelers and next thing they turned up on our local park. Not great.

[News] Can you really make offenders attend sentencing?

If it is so rare then how are the professionals you have been referencing forming their opinions as to the practicalities ?

[News] Can you really make offenders attend sentencing?

I am also a professional and I am trained to do my job with empathy but achieving the correct outcome. I also have experience of SEN tribunals which just like our court system seems overrun with deference to those that work there and very little empathy for those that have the misfortune to have...

    [Help] Covid is back

I am seeing quite a few people wearing masks in shops and just out and about. I tend to assume they have something they don’t want to spread but could also be people worried about catching it.

Yup, every time a thread can be hijacked it will be. I only clicked on this one because of the Liverpool angle. I wish I hadn’t bothered.

[News] Can you really make offenders attend sentencing?

It was this that I was referring to ; It was inhumane," said Hannah Reid. "It's really horrific the way that victims are treated specifically in sexual assault cases. You are not really told your rights. You're told the rights of the accused. "He had guidance and support the entire length of...

Fair enough but that isn’t what the three women are complaining about.

[News] Can you really make offenders attend sentencing?

Sorry, I meant defence lawyers. And yes, they were unhappy that the impact of the language used deters people from reporting crime. Korbel/Letby the victims are unhappy that the convicted person could choose whether to appear in court to be sentenced. The point I am making is that there are...

[News] Can you really make offenders attend sentencing?

I was responding to the idea advanced by several posters on this thread that the legal system knows best and listening to victims of crime is ‘populism.’ In the article I linked the victims of crimes were unhappy with their treatment by prosecution lawyers and in the Korbel and Letby cases the...

[News] Can you really make offenders attend sentencing?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-66634382 Those involved in the Justice system clearly should be challenged on how they are delivering justice. Theirs is not the only opinion that counts.

[News] Can you really make offenders attend sentencing?

I will say it again; take them to court in the same way as they are taken to prison. One way audio solves the issue you raise, as I suggested earlier. The families have only said they want the convicted in attendance whilst they are sentenced. Nothing about hearing what they have to say. As...

[News] Can you really make offenders attend sentencing?

I was under the impression that the victims’ families want to be able to see the convicted being sentenced and remove their power to not attend. I haven’t heard them say anything about forcing them to listen.

[News] Can you really make offenders attend sentencing?

Would one way audio work ? Ie the convicted would be able to hear the sentence (and be observed doing so) but the court can’t hear from them. No interruption to the judge and the victims get what they are asking for.

[News] Can you really make offenders attend sentencing?

Fair enough. But as there are victims who are asking for this I am also listening to them.

[News] Can you really make offenders attend sentencing?

I was answering a question about whether it is possible to force criminals to be present in court for sentencing. Clearly it is. I have no idea whether or not it helps victims’ families. Olivia Korbel’s family clearly think it will, hence their campaign. They have been speaking eloquently about...

    [Football] PL atmosphere

I haven’t experienced that in the last 20 or so years. We go for a drink and a meal pre game. In the ground the stewards are always helpful although the only contact we have is in being directed to our seats. Don’t need any interaction with the police these days as never see any trouble.
