Yesterday’s is an actual word as well as a character name in a book. I think the puzzle setters don’t give words to here they are only proper nouns of fictitious characters (or even proper nouns at all?).
Changed my starter word for the first time from one I knew was full of common letters to one that the NSC hive mind proved was slightly better. Result: 5. Sigh. Might stick with it for a couple of days to get used to it.
