To be fair, Ipswich offered him a new contract with a huge pay rise to stay (same when Newcastle came in for Palace's Sporting Director). Maybe I'm wrong, but we don't seem to do that.
I get that but Cave seemingly has no background or experience in recruitment. It's such an important window for us and a key part of our business model, it is a worry not to have someone experienced at the helm for this summer's targets and negotiations.
This is something that has been bugging me - when Winstanley went to Chelsea and Jewell got promoted, why didn't we hire someone in to shadow/learn from Jewell as a deputy head of recruitment? That would have been succession planning.
Romano said he was the main target for Bologna (to replace Motta). Apparently they'd been waiting until the Conference League final was done to progress.
Ben Roberts and Kyle Macaulay are both still employed by Chelsea. So, if he came back he could only bring three of the five that left with him. Would be need to bring in some extras?
It was interesting how early they started looking for Moyes replacement. It looked really disrespectful, but in hindsight maybe they realised the manager situation this summer was going to be hard and they wanted a head start.
On the calling round prospective candidates and -God knows if it was us - but Romano tweeted a quote from Gasperini today saying: “I’ve received an important proposal from a Premier League club in the recent days, weeks. I can’t accept and leave Italy now."
You know it's coming..... "We looked at a range of excellent candidates but Cooper was our number one choice from the start. We're constantly monitoring potential coaches as part of our succession planning and Steve is someone we've held interest in for some time......" 😭
