This looked interesting, but why do they have all the events on a weekday at lunch or in the afternoon? I might have gone to some of these otherwise, but can’t really justify taking half a day...
“Ajax supporters can be held up in the visitors' box for some time after the match”
What do they mean by ‘box’? Are they heading up towards the hospitality areas after the game then? Or are they using another meaning of box and being a bit disparaging about our lovely stadium? 😡
Wasps also built a lovely academy/training ground in Henley-in-Arden. It’s now used by Birmingham City as their training ground buildings were destroyed in a fire.
I suppose grass technology is better these days although point taken.
The grass for rugby did use to be much longer, when they let you on the pitch at Twickers after a game even as late as the 90s you almost couldn’t see your foot in the long grass, but I don’t think there’s much difference...
I would love a professional rugby team in Brighton and Hove. I’d go and watch them, but ‘support’ is maybe too strong a word, you can’t just manufacture allegiance like that.
Perhaps they could share the new stadium with the women’s team? 😉
Can’t argue with that, but it could still be very serviceable with a 10k capacity and upgrade.
I always thought it a shame that a site by the Amex couldn’t have been found but I suppose that was never going to happen. Although for selfish reasons I would love it to stay in Hove, I wouldn’t...
That’s with the county at a low ebb. It could comfortably justify a 10,000 capacity with a half decent team to watch (admittedly I suspect that capacity wouldn’t be tested other than in the T20).
If it’s not a blindingly silly question, are any of the subsequent ground improvements remotely in the offing?
Do we know if Tony Bloom likes cricket, by the way?
Some years back we paid for a commemorative plaque at Twickenham. It was on the Rob Andrew wall which we later found out was on the back of a toilet block, and our plaque is on the bit where a dog would likely cock its leg. Probably quite fitting in the circumstances!
I went to see England play Pakistan in Abu Dhabi a few years ago and Farokh was sat behind me. Had a lovely chat with him, he was definitely supporting England that day!
