As pointed out below, he plays someone who is dying, does it very well, brilliantly evokes the 50s era it’s set in, and it’s very different to lots of other things I’ve seen him do.

About 4 years ago he played a dying civil servant in a film called “Living” which is for me one of the best acting performances I’ve ever seen by anyone in anything. An understated masterpiece and totally believable.
