By avoiding answering my question, you may inadvertently have answered it. But I digress.
Let's consider 2 things you mentioned in the last couple of posts.
1. "I am saying I only consider performances at tournaments disregarding qualifying."
2. "A foreign boss has to be BETTER than an...
You highlighted that 2010 tournament. Whilst the exit against Germany wasn't good, we didn't lose a group game in it and qualified.
Compare that with the previous 2008 tournament with an English manager in McClaren in which we weren't even good enough to get there.
And then compare that...
"We know you've all been waiting for your tenterhooks to find out what a Fulham FC corporate Riverside ticket costs."
1. It's 'on tenterhooks', not 'for your tenterhooks'.
2. I really haven't.
If you're going to base your opinion on just the 4 games of one tournament and not consider the other 38 of the 42 games that Capello took charge of, then I'd politely suggest that that you're picking and choosing to fit your argument.
But I'll play along. Seeing as it's Germany we eventually...
There's probably a more basic explanation as to why foreign managers are considered.
"Our Commitment is to confront and eliminate discrimination whether by reason of age, gender, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, marital status, race, nationality, ethnic origin, colour, religion or...
I want the best English qualified players on the pitch, and the best people off it.
In the case of the latter, I wouldn't want to exclude the global talent that exists outside the English borders purely on geography or parentage.
The players represent England. Clearly they should have English qualification.
Those around the team (manager, assistants, physios, kit men, psychologists, data analysts, etc.) can be any nationality.
IMHO, like.
Ah, I was talking about manager's nationality, not those of players.
John Lennon's line of "imagine there's no countries..." would have brought chaos to world sporting events.
Quite so. I was at Wembley for Finland in September and Greece last Thursday (shudder) and will be there again for Ireland a month tomorrow.
I'll admit he's not the German I wanted - Klopp would've ticked all the boxes for me of elite manager and a proven tactician who can connect with players...
@mejonaNO12 aka riskit has explained it very clearly above, so there's really no need and apologies in advance to everyone else, but I'm happy to indulge you here. Again. :)
1. You made the sweeping claim that our only 2 previous foreign managers were the worst.
2. I posted a small table...
Keegan's got the worst win percentage of 38.9%. P18 W7 D7 L4.
And seeing as it's not all about win percentages ;), I was at the last competitive game at the old Wembley - a WC qualifier with Germany.
A dismal performance, a home defeat and Keegan resigns immediately afterwards in the toilet...
Granted, win percentage doesn't give the full picture of success.
But then again my understanding of "worst" wouldn't include the one with the best managerial record.
When it comes to logical positions, even the most anglocentric of supporters might consider that a bit of a reach.
Ok, we covered this previously during the Euros. That's simply not true.
With regards to win percentages excluding caretaker managers like Carsley or single game managers like Allardyce, the top 6 are as follows.
Capello 66.7% (28 wins in 42 games)
Southgate 62.7% (64 wins in 102 games)...
Last month, I broke up with my AI algorithm girlfriend.
I thought I'd be the only one, but soon realised that I was having what everyone else was having.
Some might not want to believe this because of their own political dogma, but this is absolutely the case. I generally stay away from political threads as much as possible on here, but there's always the exception to prove the rule. It's mostly when there's a different insight or perspective...
