I'm on page 1064, #21,280. This thread has moved so fast the I can't keep up.
I'm not going to be childish and call him cun*ing fergus but he does have a point about who are prepared to go into fight.

When all this started my eldest said he'd like to go over & help out at the time, when there were heavy hints that they may need it. I said I'd take his passport away & did hide it. He's not up for a fight but was disgusted by what was happening to Ukraine, it's a country he loves. About 3 years before he had a Russian friend at college who had come to the UK after his 'service', After the invasion of Ukraine my eldest was shocked by the things his 'friend' was posting, I don't think he deleted him from his social media as he wanted to have an insight as to what was happening. But basically even though my eldest was/is old enough to make his own decisions the parent in me stepped in and said no & that he wasn't going there for any reason (he'd be shit at actual fighting).

If push came to shove & there was ever conscription that meant my kids had to step up & fight. I'd 'kidnap' them, I'd hide them & keep them there, whether they wanted to fight or not. My job as a parent is to keep my kids safe. They may have more experience with Call Of Duty than me, but I'd prefer to go myself rather than them. We'd all be just as useless as each other in combat, it would be mad to send them off to fight.

The fact I'm even thinking about this is madness, how in 2025, can I be worried about conscription.

Oh well, I think I could live with that.
It's ingrained into Americans that it's perfectly acceptable to go to Asda & buy a gun.
I'm quite happy that over here we moan about strawberries not in stock rather than ammo for a high powered assault rifle.

Can you buy guns in Asda? Strawberries on the other hand, you may have a point…

I would imagine there is some deep seated jealousy going on. Trump could live for another 100 years and never achieve a tiny fraction of the true bravery, leadership, humility, intelligence, respect and integrity that Zelensky holds.

Zelensky will go down in history as a true hero of the 21st century.

Trump will be forever remembered as a pathetic, lying, cheating, mysogenistic, racist loser, and a horrible stain on the legacy of the human race.
Trump fears that if Zelenskiy doesn't sign something, anything...he just may not get that Nobel peace prize

The US is resorting to very dirty tactics to secure the minerals deal, amounting to extortion. They have now threatened to cut Ukraine's access to Starlink if they do not sign the deal.

This threat goes way beyond the issue of the US merely wanting to be compensated for any aid they provide and would be an act of pure malice tantamount to open aggression.

It makes you wonder what is coming next.

Extortion is the right word. Trump seems to be losing his mind and perspective.

The reason for Trump's odd behaviour - the appeasement of Russia and the vilification of Ukraine, may be staring us in the face.

If we bypass the money/greed and agent Krasnov stuff, we are looking at an old man, who is in decline and losing his cognitive powers, which were not great to begin with.

As we age, we lose our mental faculties. In some people, this is manifested in aggression, as we know we are in decline and struggle to maintain a grip on events.

I'll post a link on the discussion going on in the US.

Trump and his cabal keep reiterating that Ukraine can't win. However, they seem to be doing everything to prevent Ukraine from winning. Losing Starlink would probably be worse than losing US weapons aid, I think. This is the sort of thing I had in mind a few weeks ago when I said I feared Trump would try to dig Putin out of a hole.

It shows it's not just Trump who wants the minerals, we can be sure that Musk is the one driving this.

Give ‘Father and Son’ by Cat Stevens a listen, wasn’t it exactly that he was taking about?

Nah... I think he knows exactly what he's doing, bully in extremis, I just don't know why unless he's on a promise from Russia. I'll read the link though 😉

No it isn't. Stop polluting this thread with Russian propaganda
With reserves, the Russian Army is 3m.

Source: Reuters

It’s been engaged in a 3 year conflict with an opponent actively supported by the West, in both military hardware and money.

The Russian Army during that period has remained unified and probably more important taken hold of the parts of eastern Ukraine Putin set out to grab.

None of those statements is Russian propaganda, they are irrefutable truths.

It’s not 1939, the people that lived here then are dead, we are evidently not the country today we were then.

In 1939 the adult population was overwhelmingly children from parents that lived and likely served in WW1. That conflict was a horror show casualty wise and it is remarkable the the children of the WW1 generation was willing to go through the experience of their parents.

Todays likely war serving generation are the great great grandchildren of the WW2 generation and let’s be honest they aren’t cut from the same cloth.

Life is different today, these children travel, have luxuries and lives unthinkable a mere 70 years ago. If Putin is a maniacal as Hitler was in 1939 we will need to find another way to stop him that think we can put 3m strong army together with the current 18-27yr old cohort……….imo obvs.

JD Vance is another chameleon who is doing and saying whatever it takes to be in high power. He has flip flopped 180deg on Trump, he talks absolute made up shit like Trump. that would fit a Geroge Orwell novel more than the real world.

He is only in the VP position because he was propelled their by silicon valley tech bros, like Musk, Peter Thiel etc. He is their guy and nothing more than a puppet front for their attempts to create and control a new US Oligarchi and have full control of the US government aparatus through their man, once Tango Mussolini pops his clogs or is deposed.

Yet you hold up this morally vacuos, bullshitting puppet as some sort of poster boy?
I get it you don’t like Vance, I don’t know about him, however I read his “controversial” speech last week in Munich.

It’s far as I’m concerned he made a series of points that were true, and that was refreshing to hear from a senior politician. I have no doubts the majority of people on this message board will rage and gnash their teeth about that, but regardless of the merits or otherwise of his view, the fact is Vance’s view is going to be the paradigm through which the US treats Europe.

This week Trump has exposed how weak the European powers are without US military support. So, what are the senior European politicians going to do, the ball is in their court, Vance and Trump are watching.
