I think Nige realises that his anti-immigration strategy basically means we will be in the shits (even more than now) in a few decades - mainly because old people will become a significantly larger proportion of the total population without immigration. A recent study showed that, in only 50 years, the old-age dependency ratio (ie, the proportion of people over 65) is projected to more than double, reaching 56.7 per cent by 2050 in the EU, compared to 25.9 per cent in 2001.

The burden of caring for the elderly is already substantial, but without immigration it's going to become completely unsustainable. So the "solution" is to significantly increase the birth rate. How this is done is obviously pretty complex. However, logically if we're going to significantly reduce immigration, then we MUST increase our own birth rate.

Incidentally, there was a great article in The Guardian recently showing each European country's projected population in 2100, compared to now, both with and without immigration. Apols if already referenced. There are some eye-popping changes: Italy and Spain would find their populations halved, for example:

Farage is sneaking off to Maryland to mix it with his fellow right wingers at the CPAC meeting. Not a peep out of him against his mate Putin.

Apparently Brexit failed because it wasn't done right, and still they believed :dunce:

I'm dying to see how his acolytes explain his running away again, and his complete and utter failure to condemn Trump and Putin's latest round of narcissistic lunacy.

But my favourite posts lately have been from people who support Farage on NSC calling Americans who voted for Trump stupid without the slightest hint of Irony

That's a slight misrepresentation: birth rates have historically been higher among immigrants, so the lower the immigration rate, the lower the birth rate.

The problem is that governments traditionally look to the next election (maybe the one after that) but we won't really start feeling the effects of the lower birth rate for another 30 years, at a time when ministers are long retired or brown bread. It's nothing for them to worry about

I'm not linking to it for numerous reasons, but Farage LITERALLY said on stage yesterday: "My country, you can't say anything, or you might get put in prison."

He really is the berk's berk, isn't he? Resident of 1, Berk Street, Berktown.

I hereby volunteer to initiate a programme of breeding.
It will be a massive distraction from my normal activites,
but it is a sacrifice I am prepared, manfully, to make.
