[Albion] Albion's first foreign signing?

Met up with the legendary Hans Kraay at the Caxton last night, and meeting up with the mild mannered 🤣 Dutchman I got to thinking, who was the first player Albion signed from outside Great Britain and Ireland?

To my shame, I forgot about Denis Foreman, a man I was honoured to help on his final journey, and thought it was either Jacob Cohen or Moshe Gariani in 1980, but was there anyone before dear old Denis?

I know most of the Foreman family, and Dennis was a legend. Gotsmanov the only one which springs to mind for me anyway.

Yes it was for ESPN Holland.

Perfect timing after Mitoma's goal, we discussed Frank Worthington's sublime left foot strike from December 1984 vs Wimbledon, a game Hans played in, having seen the goal Friday and witnessed the goal live in 1984, Hans said they were both of a similar ilk.

I remember a Dane, Henning Boel, playing for us in the 70s and found this reference:

He played in a friendly match for Brighton and Hove Albion against Stoke City in February 1973 while out on loan (from Aberdeen).

Edit - of course there were also the 2 Peruvians who nearly signed in 1979, Oblitas and Roja, who also played in a friendly:

Still, the Albion put on a hastily arranged friendly against Bournemouth to take a look at the duo. With the Goldstone unavailable, Brighton had to use Hove Greyhound Stadium instead; seven months after Oblitas and Rojas had been playing in a World Cup for Peru, they were turning out at a dog track in England.

I'm fairly sure foreman was the 1st and then until gariani and Cohen we didn't have any others playing 1st team games. Unless you count John Ruggerio who was half italian

I was at that friendly when Henning Boel played ,he was excellent and me and a few fans around me where shouting sign him.

I don't know what happened there. This is what I wrote in response to Lenny Rider mentioning the December 1984 match against Wimbledon:

That was my first Albion game, having persuaded my father to take me to a game. We sat in the Lego Stand. Stuart Evans scored for Wimbledon. Was Worthington's goal the equaliser or the winner? I can't remember, and it's been frustrating me ever since. In either case, who scored the other goal for us?
