The arse end of Hangleton
Not necessarily symptomatic of just him though, the whole team has dropped.
This. In particular the defence performance has plummeted. We have a defence as fast as an asthmatic slug which doesn't work with FH's tactics. This leaves Bart exposed. Time for a new defence or new tactics but not a new keeper.

The most curious thing..
I'd suggest the problem is we are obsessed with distribution aka dicking around at the back. Few keepers (or defences) look comfortable being ordered to do that. I want a keeper that is first and foremost a good shot-stopper. Then one who is good at crosses. Don't give a shit what his distribution is like. One day that particular fad will pass into the dustbin of history. Sooner the better, really
Just thump it as far as you can down the middle and hope...

I must admit I’ve never felt very secure with Bart. Goalkeepers often mature late and I never really understood why a proven performer like Tim Krul didn’t get more of a run in our side.

Apologies another negative thread.

Is it just me or can we not find a half decent goalie since promotion. Why is filling this position so difficult?

Matty Ryan. Short , average shot stopper, poor at crosses, average distribution. Since leaving Brighton career off a cliff.

Robert Sanchez. Good shot stopper. Pretty crap at everything else. Mugged Chelsea off and since... found out there.

Jason Steele. Good distribution, that's it. Serial career failure. Leader in the dressing room so maybe worth the salary for this role.

Verbruggen. Terrible at crosses, distribution nowhere near good enough, so many mistakes this season leading to goals. Doesn't even seem to save anything anymore . I know he may come good eventually and has a lot of potential but he's painful to watch at the moment. Despite real Madrid interest*

*Don't make me laugh.
So, in conclusion, our four best ever goalkeepers.

No because any conversation about our best keepers has to include Eric Steele, Graham Moseley and Joe Corrigan (although his best days were behind him by the time he joined us).

For their era maybe. But I doubt they would cope with the style of modern keepers and would probably not fair well as a result, especially regarding distribution.

The most annoying thing about Bart is his unwillingness to EVER play a quick ball after he has collected the ball from an opposition shot. It really irritates me because it means we never have a fast counter attack with most of the opposition in our half. He also persists with putting his foot on the ball and doing nothing even when it’s obvious the opposition aren’t going to try and close him down.
In fairness, it’s the whole team. It seems we’re allergic to counter attacking again like we were under Potter.

He has to be doing that because he's been told to do it, else he'd have been told to stop doing it

That argument is ridiculous. This whole keeper needing to be exceptionally good with their feet thing is a very very recent development. You cannot discount 100 years of football history because the game is different today to when they played. If they played today they'd have been trained to play the way of the modern goalkeeper, but we cannot know if they'd have thrived or not.

It's a bit like saying Bobby Moore isn't one of the best centre backs to play the game because modern players are fitter and stronger. If he played now he'd have benefited from the modern training methods and sport science developments that todays players do.

You can only judge the player by how good they were in their day, and by that measure the players I mentioned, plus @hans kraay fan club nomination of Ben Roberts (which is a great shout) are in any conversation about the best keepers to ever play for us.
