Legend is a word that gets bandied around far too much, but had it not been for aforementioned death of Yootha Joyce he would have been right up there as a sit com icon, with Barker and Jason.
Met his wife, Linda Regan, herself a Hi Di Hi Yellow Coat, some years ago, a lovely lady. They clearly had a very happy and loving marriage.
Quite a testament to his acting ability that we can remember his most famous character George from a show that aired so long ago. You can just see that look on his face when he was getting told off by Yootha Joyce. Even now you hear people describe some couples as just like ' George and Mildred '
For me - sense of humour is developed through watching shows like this. I know it wasn't 100% PC - but
there were some absolute nuggets of pure comedy that I will never forget (and use!)
Sad, I used to see him going to Shortlands station near Bromley to buy his newspaper every morning when I lived there around 10 years ago.
Loved his part in Booze Cruise (TWAT)
