I think our mistake, or at least TBs mistake, was treating a football manager like a player - Hurzeler probably will be a quality manager in a few years time once he learns his trade... but that's the issue isn't it. He's learning his trade here right now, and making a lot of mistakes.

Maybe we should be patient with him. Maybe it will pay off. Or maybe it won't. That's the gamble - and it's not a gamble the fans are willing to take, who very much desire and expect results now, not in 5 years time.
Yep we’ve done the learning on the job with Potter, getting to Europe was a logistical nightmare for the club it wasn’t meant to happen so soon.
The fan base of course expects more of the same especially with the summer spend.
In other words the bluff they like to come out with to dampen expectations isn’t being as welcomed as it once was.

Graham Potter had 11 years of managerial experience before he arrived here.

Hurzeler had just over 1 in professional football.

Our worst defeat in 67 years is possibly one reason to stop and consider that this is not going well.
I thought we had reached the stage in our PL life where we were competitive with anybody. Today...we were so far off it...it was embarrassing. A game that was so totally mis-managed that it undermined any belief that this individual can adapt and adjust. We capitulated. We threw the towel in. We played suicidal football. We threw certain players under the bus..unfairly allowing them to be overrun.
You had to be there to feel the total humiliation of it. Forest were in 2nd gear for a lot of the game. They coasted for the first 15 min of the 2nd half after we made changes and then realised they still had nothing to beat and went in search of more goals.
We got away with 0-7. It could have been double figures. It was a total collapse.
We have a novice cutting his teeth with a very good squad and today's shambles was another example of him failing to pay enough respect to the opposition.
Our season rests on next Saturday and I think his future might as well.

We have, and have had all season, a load of injuries
We had no fully fit midfielders. None.
Your last line is daft.

it’s a lovely idea, as some seem to think, that we can afford the luxury of letting someone learn on the job in one of the world’s toughest leagues because he might be up to it in 3 years time. Players don’t have 3 years of their career to waste. We’ll lose the good ones we have in the meantime as well as the reputation for career-building that’s allowed us to put together a great squad.

We've been battered playing away at the team in 3rd place, so it's back to the wins were luck or fortunate, and the games we lost were entirely the fault the FH. We're still 10th and still in the FA Cup, but the season is over, ruined.
:ffsparr:
It's not just about the results.

It's the way we're playing. We often look lost and confused. Our defence is as open as the side of the Titanic.

There's nothing about our games, even the wins, that I can point to and say: that was good, that was Brighton.

Maybe I'm overreacting, and I would love to be proved wrong and called a prick at the end of the season, but for me there is something deeply worrying about our play this last few months.

Something is off. And we can't sack 25 players. So Fab has to nut up or f*** off.

Completely agree with your assessment. It’s not about the results per se but about our performances and style ( or lack of).
Under Potter and RDZ you could see a Brighton team a mile off. Now we can’t apart from defensive frailties.
There seems to be disciplinary issues which suggests a lack of respect for the coach.
Also we seem to be disenfranchising some of our up and coming star players. I’d be really disappointed if we now lose Ferguson knowing that the decision is Likely based on the assessment of FH when I’m not sure that he has the knowledge to make such an important decision.

Why is it daft?
If we go out of the cup that's it for the season. No chance of threatening a European place and every likelihood of finishing lower than last season. A position that won't impress our top half targetting board who have backed this novice to an extraordinary degree.
