Whether you like it or not, the genie is out of the bottle.

The problem with AI is that society will not be able to cope with the pace of change.

With the introduction of PCs and then the internet, you had approx. 5 years of gradual adoption and steady innovation, but with AI things are moving at breakneck speed. I think most Star readers won't have a clue what tomorrow's front page is about.

Indeed, I find it somewhat ironic that a newspaper chooses to put this story on their front page, given that a newspaper is printed on paper and those readers who still buy newspapers clearly decided to swerve the digital age as soon as they heard of The Millennium Bug.

That's great. At first glance the answers seem *correct.....

As I posted before, an AI generated essay answer to a question set by me scores a fail every time.

But I rather like AI. It is to genuine content what a porn mag is to a relationship (showing my age, there).

*A bit like Johnson, Truss and Badenough
I predict that in two years’ time you won’t be able to tell (unless you use AI to tell you)…

Very much for it.
Also very much for China doing it cheaper and better. That’ll learn the tech bros.

It is the most incredible leap in technological evolution of all time. It will change everything, as humans will become effectively obsolete.

We have created something that can use all human knowledge and refer to it almost impeccably in an instant, and use it to create new logic and ideas to build on that knowledge, also in an instant. No human being can compete with it.

When AI becomes established, there will be no need to hire human beings for most jobs anymore.

The technology is amazing, it could make all of our lives utopian. But whether we are ready for this, or whether global politics and the capitalist overlords will allow it to become a utopia for us, is the only reason to doubt it - as in the same way it can (and surely will) be utilised for more sinister means.
Pull the plug out of the electrical socket and it's screwed. It needs loads of computing power and computers need electrical power.

Done a Frexit, now in London
In the 'pro' list for AI, this is a project I've been very excited about:

Not only as someone who's bullish on ICP, loves the idea of a true decentralised internet and a full on chain AI. But as an IT Professional who's managed for years in the space but beyond basic queries to get data, can't code.

If you can speak, you can code! It's a self-writing internet, democratise, decentralise and empower any human with internet access to create what they want using public networks, with full end-to-end sovereignty thats true web3.

Has anyone tried the Chinese version of AI that was downloaded to hell over the weekend? DeepSeek?

is there a freebie period that you can evaluate it ?

I asked it, what happened on 20 May 1989 in Tiananmen Square. It didn't have an answer.

But a more sensible answer to your question, no. I'm 99% sure it's spyware and I'd avoid it.

Tried it yesterday as I had a technical type of question at work, I thought I knew the answer to, but wanted to run through it with someone, but no one else was sure themselves!

Asked it as if I was talking to someone real and it gave an answer which I was able to ‘interrogate’.

Gave me sufficient reassurance I was right, as it backed up the answer it gave with theory, logic and reasoning.

Can you use Deepseek without registering like I can with Chatgpt?

(I haven't found a way and I'm reluctant to register).

Problem with chatgpt is that its answers were pants when I tried it last week. Often gave me out of date info and in some cases just incorrect info.

Mind you, my Alexa tells me that Bobby Charlton scored 4 goals in his career. and confuses Long Melford with Camelford, so I'm not impressed by her either.

The free version of ChatGPT can't access the internet in real-time to retrieve latest info.

It does look like that's the case.

Chatgpt says that Benrahma is still a Wet Sham player, but he transferred to Lyon more than 6 months ago. That truly is "not real-time". No idea how often it updates its data/knowledge. But clearly nowhere near as frequently as the free versions of Google and Wikipedia, which are almost instant for facts like that.

It does write in clear, nicely worded sentences though.

ChatGPT free doesn’t claim anywhere or state it’s in real time, in fact only in recent updates has it not included a disclaimer at the top of the app specifically stating this.

A few months ago I was asking my boss, who is massively respected in my field, has been the department head for 25 years and who I have worked with on a daily basis for 5 years, for advice on a plan I'd been asked to put together for a job interview with another department, which he'd recommended I apply for. His only bit of advice was to ask Chat GPT 😑

I tried it extensively yesterday. Asked it lots of questions about China, it censored almost all of them. Strangely, or not as it appears the Chinese government censor its output, when asked sensitive questions it populated the answer with a full context reply which appeared for around 2 seconds before immediately dissapearing to be replaced by a standard 'we cannot respond to this request'...

Chinese government censorship is clearly controlling the output, and if you allow it to use your google account to sign in they are collecting whatever they can from that.

Ive deleted it and won't be taking part in any further Chinese censorship promotion.

Interestingly if you manage to disable your internet connection in that small 2 second window from when it produces its reply to deleting it you prevent it from dissapearing, presumably because you cut its connection to its servers. I tried ChatGPT and MetaAI and neither of these censored any of the same questions I asked Deepseek. Use it at your own risk..

Try asking it, 'Tell me about the persecution of Uyghurs'...
