Me and some of the ACME Building lads just popped down and did a quick ‘castle makeover.’

That should do nicely Boss/Gaffer!

He said something more interesting that doesn’t seem to have been picked up. When talking about home and away form he made a point of praising Brighton fans at away matches for the terrific noise they make. It was nice to be acknowledged but it also did strike me as an obvious dig at the home atmosphere.

I didn't see that as a dig as much as encouragement to do it at home too.

Well, if it was a dig, I wouldn't be too offended. It's obvious to anyone with ears that the away support is way more vocal.

However, I'm sure it was more of a cri de cœur than a barb.

I didn't see that as a dig as much as encouragement to do it at home too.

Every manager as far back as I can remember has tried to encourage the backing of the home crowd. This happens at every club, not just ours.

With all of these new terms and conditions on attending next season, Shirley Barber could have inserted some atmosphere / minimum involvement clause into the season ticket renewals.

There's always one person who will only see the negative, congratulations on being that person.

I think it got lost in translation a bit but, essentially, what he was saying was: "This next home atmosphere could be season-defining"

It's a lot easier to be boisterous when surrounded by your mates, as opposed to right behind two young children. Swearing too.
I sat at Old Trafford next to a Mum/Dad with 2 u10 kids. They spent a lot of their time putting their hands over their ears.
I sort of understand. Whilst the atmosphere was terrific - iit helps when you're winning or ahead as we were for nearly the whole 90 mins - but
i'm not sure why so many of our chants seem to involve the C word. Its offensive for starters and also a bit lame.

Without stating the obvious it all about density.

At an away game the density of ‘up for it’ fans is at its maximum level.

Therefore you get… maximum noise (albeit tempered by the quantity of fans (max 3k)).

Fans x Density x Time Drinking = Noise

At a home game, most of those away fans mentioned above are at the Amex but spread around the stadium. Therefore reducing the density and reducing the noise.

So I propose we have 2 away areas at the Amex….

The usual away area and a ‘home away’ area populated by the cohort of home fans who go to away games…

The resulting increase in density = increased noise and increased atmosphere!

It’s not rocket science! Innit.

Same difference. Dig might have been the wrong word. Let's say he made the observation that support was much louder and more enthusiastic at away games, where we've performed better in recent games. The implication was pretty clear about how we can help create the Amex castle.

And others that seem to be a hangover from pre-millennium days. That nonsense about shooting rival fans, and what they call poverty chanting at northern grounds. Even "Ed Sheeran, your music is shit", grated on me at Ipswich. No humour, no cleverness, just plain old boorish abuse. Embarrassing.
