I don’t do horror films so I’m not gonna reply to this thread.

I don't watch them as a rule. But there are some films which aren't gore for gore's sake. I did rather enjoy Twenty Eight Days Later.

I enjoy Folk Horror”

From Wicker Man to Enys Men and more obscure ones. I especially like ones set in the 1970’s.

I enjoy reading this stuff too.

I enjoy all the usual tropes;

Naive outsider arrives at a remote location, visits the local Inn in the dead of night, slowly uncovers strange goings on.

Love it.

Groups of friends who go on a hike and disaster befalls them, love those films.

And a good Werewolf film always does the job for me.

Dog Soldiers spans all these genres and I love that one. Doesn’t take itself too seriously either.

I also love The Company Of Wolves. What an atmospheric film!

Not a fan of gore or haunting films. They do nothing for me at all.

Can you recommend some books please?

Barrowbeck by Andrew Hurley

The Gallows Pole by Benjamin Myers

Pine (I forget the author)

I enjoyed all the above recently.
Thank you.
I love Myers stuff. I really recommend Elmet by Fiona Morzley.
Not horror per se but it has that folk horror sense of place, the atmosphere. Definitely influenced by it.

Are there any genuinely scary films anymore? Maybe I just got desensitised as I grew up watching Hammer Horrors with my parents where just the music would scare me, but they do nothing for me now.
I'll try to look up Eden Lake.

Paranormal Activity scared me. Genuinely creepy.

Midsommer is sort of along these lines and I found it quite disturbing..does have Florence Pugh in it though 😍

Paranormal Activity freaked me out.
Watched it at home and had to keep stopping it and turning the lights back on every time that bloody time stamp started moving quickly.
Should watch it again.
Not sure why I found it so scary.
