An owner of a business is not going to pay ~£3m per annum for a CEO and then micro-manage the business themselves. Doesn't happen. Or maybe I should say I have never seen or heard of it happening. Maybe you can give an example where it has.If anyone honestly believes that TB doesn't have an significant input on a project like the Fanzone and its ramifications, then they're deluded.
As I've observed before, the rule on here (for some at least) seems to be that TB takes the credit for everything that is approved of, and PB takes the blame for everything that is disapproved of.

Downing?Owned by Downing now.
They are the company who got permission to put up the student housing.Downing?
Do they definitely own the land though ?They are the company who got permission to put up the student housing.
Yes.Do they definitely own the land though ?
They probably still own it but I’d be shocked if they build student accommodation. Absolutely flabbergasted!Yes.
Downing snaps up Brighton site for development - UK Construction Online
Downing has acquired the former Bennett's field car park by the Amex Stadium in Brighton, following a successful planning application at the end of last year.www.ukconstructionmedia.co.uk
Football clubs aren't normal businesses. Tony Bloom is not a normal business owner. Tony Bloom and his relation to Brighton & Hove Albion isn't like the relation between the owners of McDonalds and McDonalds itself. The McDonalds owners haven't been crying and cheering and singing about Ronald McDonald since they were little kids. McDonalds owners don't stand in the same queue as the cheeseburger consumers to buy the same thing they're having. An owner of a business is not going to pay ~£3m per annum for a CEO and then micro-manage the business themselves. Things have changed a lot in the a year.
For example, the University of Sussex could has as many as 2,000 empty halls room on campus (cheaper and more convenient than private halls) come September. The previous Government’s actions to curtail international students is having a huge effect in Brighton. If you wanted to build more student accommodation, you’ll be changing your plans and building something else now or just sitting on the land until demand returns which might not happen for many, many years.
Will they really make more money from a 2 storey club shop than they will from an extra bar?
Wow! That's a pretty speedily erected erection. Just imagine if the club could move as speedily to erect something to shelter those queueing for the trains or the P&R. They've only had a dozen or so years to do soWas there this morning, and it is very large - no room for a bar though as they have a wide range of stock, shirt printing, a fair few tills. Forgot to take a picture inside (d'oh!), but here's the outside:

Hidden behind this is a smaller version which I guess is the stockroom for the store/maybe staff toilet facilities etc?
Chatted with one of the staff; they were also surprised how large it was; they will allow 100 people in there at a time on match days. I did ask about click & collect as that was a great option for those of us who live close (there was a training shirt I wanted, which was only available online annoyingly) and I think it was scrapped when Covid started (although could be wrong about that). It irks me to be charged a minimum of £4.95 for postage when I can just pop over there and pick it up. He said that they were hoping to reintroduce it - I guess maybe when the expansion is complete?
Definitely better than the Churchill Square shop which has most of the main items but very limited nonetheless.
Watch this space,I will be very surprised if student accommodation gets built there. Apparently somebody we all know is trying to get it back.As its on Bennetts field club must have decent relationship with owner. Is there any chance Club can buy this land

My point was really about the number of punters interested in buying merch, compared to the numbers who don't have a few pints at the ground because there aren't enough bars.Interesting question that - and probably one for the in house expert really, though I understand the profit on a pint is ~£1.50 and on a football shirt ~£45, so provided 1/30th the amount of shirts are sold as pints, as a result, it would work (and the pints are still going to be sold, just elsewhere such as in the new fanzone).
Mark up on booze isn’t great and they outsource catering anyway. Margins on Asian (presumably) manufactured tat must be massive. My point was really about the number of punters interested in buying merch, compared to the numbers who don't have a few pints at the ground because there aren't enough bars.
I suspect the club have got it right.
But from my perspective a few beers would win hands down.
I'm sure you're right.Mark up on booze isn’t great and they outsource catering anyway. Margins on Asian (presumably) manufactured tat must be massive.
Have you not seen the amount of stuff Mitoma fans can fit in one of the see through club shop bags?I'm sure you're right.
But how much tat can the club sell on a match day?
And you wonder why people buy replica shirts not from the club shopsInteresting question that - and probably one for the in house expert really, though I understand the profit on a pint is ~£1.50 and on a football shirt ~£45, so provided 1/30th the amount of shirts are sold as pints, as a result, it would work (and the pints are still going to be sold, just elsewhere such as in the new fanzone).
