My computer can't handle the websites of local British newspapers... for real.

What were the reasons the deal didn't happen?
Doesn't sound crazy that we'd go again. If we can't get Boscagli in January we might want another left-footed defender in as Igor's replacement. And Cashin wouldn't cost the world unlike some other defenders we've been linked to. It would be a cheapish way of bringing in a backup defender who has the right age and nationality to be easily moved on if things don't work out.

Cute.

We were haggling over fee, and we left it too late in the window to up the bid to what they were after, if I remember correctly. Since then he signed new deal (he was running close to the end of a deal when we last bid) and is playing in the Championship now (rather than L1 as he was then) - so he'd cost a fair bit more. If we'd wanted him, we sure have moved better last time!

These aren't the players you're looking for.

Never got this one. No outstanding physical attributes, nobody else shown much of an interest, not in the Ireland team. Not even that young.
His data must be staggering.

From what I've read, like Boscagli, he's a left-footer with an unerring ability to play long diagonal passes to the wings with the accuracy of an NFL quarterback.

Signing a player like this makes sense, a great option to beat the press and maximise the threat of Mitoma and Minteh.

Some of it doesn't look to shabby...
I was a bit confused by this rumour, but this is pretty convincing data.

While it takes some of the fun out of transfers, I've learnt to just trust the club on this stuff. Of course they're not gonna have a 100% hit rate, but we do well enough at buying and selling that I have to think that, if a transfer doesn't make sense to me, it's because there's something I don't know/understand. Like, it felt to me that we were paying well over the odds for Georginio last summer and Joao Pedro the summer before, but I kept my mouth shut because I figured there was a more-than-decent chance the club knew better than I did. And clearly they did.

So whether it's just because he's available at a bargain price, or because the club's algorithms show he'd perform better in our team than in any other, or because our data means we're expecting him to turn into a monster of a centre-half in a year or two: I'm sure the club knows what it is doing.

Surprised if we are interested in him again, especially as we kind of know how FH wants to play which would require CBs to be quick, Cashin doesn't have pace (and isn't very tall either I think) so not sure if this rumour is true. Happy to be wrong but with Derby having no fit CBs apart from Cashin, they're not likely to sell anyway!

Not the tallest of centre-backs. Height of 1.84m / 6ft. Similar height and build of Adam El Abd.
In comparison, Lewis Dunk is 1.92m / 6ft 4in.

Interestingly Olivier Boscagli measures up at 1.81m / 5ft 11in.

now confirmed by a reliable source

not for sale is the message

Cool attitude. I'm sure their fans love it. But if we pay enough money they will sell him... just how it works. Pretending that lion is a cat doesn't change the real food chain.

Surely Ruairi McConville can step in and play as the fourth choice centre-back?
Yes, I know he's not got the first-team experience as Cashin but he's training with better players than the Derby cloggers.

Maybe he can but he's right-footed. Cashin can play both LCB and LB. Currently Pervis is our only fit left-footed defender and since Igor will likely miss all of the rest of the season we may be very interested in a left-footed CB who can also cover for Pervis. Like Boscagli from PSV or this guy.

Still surprised that Brighton are in for himbu he has had a lot better time in the first half of this season than last, he's been excellent.

Is exactly what happened - Was surprised how Brighton went about that one, he'd certainly be a lot more expensive now than then.

He's left footed, I can't categorically say he's never played LB but I can't recall it. I certainly wouldn't describe as someone who 'can play' LB.

Left of a back 3 is a plausible position for him if we signed him. Has he ever done that job for you?

Fair enough, seems like he only got one game as LB (a loss against Charlton - but he scored!).

Then again Igor also can't play LB and pretty much never did until he signed him. Sometimes the setup of our defence makes the "paper positions" false. For instance someone listed RB or LB on paper could actually be playing as LCB or RCB in reality.

Cashin doesn't seem like much of a ball playing defender but if he can do similar things as Veltman does to the right, he could be a more defensive backup for Pervis or play to the left of a back three.
