The Suns have absolutely nailed their new logo btw. Really, really, clever from a design point of view....but they've mucked it up on the actual guernsey - whys it not gold like it is on the shorts, to give it some contrast!? Big fail.

ooh- you should defo try and get to Marvel and the MCG, to compare the two stadiums - the Essendon v Dogs game should be good if its under the lights, and then id say both the MCG games would be belters - Hawthorn v Carlton will be two fairly decent sides, and while Richmond v Collingwood wont be particulalry competitive (Richmond are going to be hilariously dreadful for the next couple of years) its a clash between two massive fanbases. Tickets are really cheap, going to three games over a weekend is perfectly alright! (They'll firm up the specific dates and times nearer the time, they arent set in stone yet from round 15 onwards i believe)

Great - thanks for the tips and yes, I’ll try and get to a few. Been to both for the cricket but the Marvel was always 3 parts empty then so would be good to see it full. Really looking forward to it!

I lived in melbourne a few years ago and used to work just outside the city, when i finished my saturday shifts i'd go and watch the last quarter of whatever was the daytime MCG game - they opened up the gates, it was free! :p but its still only about $35aud for a general admission ticket, so you really can mosy along if you fancy a game on the day, for the vast majority of fixtures. Hawthorn v Carlton will probs have about 60-70k there, and richmond-collingwood could be a 98k sellout, but as one or both of them will be fairly crap, it might only be about 50 or 60k. Still excellent experiences though! Get a Carlton midstrength beer and a four n twenty pie, and shout 'BAAAAAAALLLLL!' with every ounce of strength in your lungs

Similar to me, I used to watch last quarter at Carlton, Princes Park being just a few minutes walk from home. Never paid to watch.

Got back from Oz on Saturday evening - what an incredible country! Had an absolutely fantastic time out there, even though there wasn't any AFL on.
Just as we were leaving though, stuff started appearing in the shops again - so made sure I grabbed a couple of bits to bring back with me.

The trophy is actually a fragrance spray ( 🤣 ) but thought it would look good on the shelf with the mini football. Got myself a full size footie as well...rude not to at $10 AUD !

That hat will bring you nothing but disappointment 🤣

I assume there were more influences than just picking a team?

I just booked to see Carlton v Hawthorn at the MCG when I’m out there for the Lions tour. They haven’t fixed the dates yet so it’s a bit difficult to book too much now, I’ll look at another game nearer the time maybe at the Marvel Stadium.

Yeah...quite simple really tbh. Navy blue is my favourite colour, and I share the same name as the Carlton skip! 😁
Well they have to come good at some point, massive club that have been down on their luck/poor management/cheating bastards for a long time.

Carlton are a good team to follow i think. Still joint top of the table of all-time flag winners, despite being mostly dreadful for the last thirty years, they're like Richmond in that they're a meme when they're crap, but as soon as they turn the page and start improving, they'll become a juggernaut that'll win three flags in half a decade. When it turns, it turns big. Plus their kit, and theme song, are top tier.

Im alright with Carlton, despite their sickening habit of absolutely robbing Freo in matches :p

First match of the season is 6 march, thats a shade over six weeks away! turning my interest from NFL to AFL is an important part of the calendar - cant wait til those early mornings with a dirty chai, watching Freo on the sofa at 5.30. Love it!
