On 8th Feb we play Chelsea in the FA Cup and then again in the league six days later.

Given the choice, and you could only have one, would you rather beat Chelsea in the FA Cup and lose to them in the league, or lose to them in the Cup match and beat them in the league?

I suppose the question is do you think we have a better chance of getting into Europe than we do of winning the Cup, and has your mind been swayed by our recent results?

League is a real hornets nest this year and I think some teams will have more stability than us and we might end 10-12. Stability matters less in the cup and we have a rather high top level.

I'm sure Brighton will play a cup final within the next 10 years so why not now...

Cup and it isn’t even close. League will be 67 points to get Europe if you extrapolate current standings (top 6 gets it) if spurs win the league cup. This means we need 11 wins from 16.

Arsenal, spurs/villa, West Ham, chelsea would be out too, so if a Liverpool/city clash it’s wide open.

You're asking me to choose between my children, and I won't do it

League purely because there are a number of European places available in the league while there is only one in the cup

Yes! Finally! Season after season the majority view on NSC has been that the Cup is a luxury and we need to 'concentrate on the League'. With a fair wind and a following tide it is extremely possible that the Brighton of this era could win a trophy. However in order to do that we've got to maybe even prioritise the Cup over the league. The Chelsea league game is just one of 38, we may well lose it .... and if we do when can 'go again' and it will be countered by a game we'll win when we perhaps should have lost. However lose the Cup game and it's over, finished, our chance for a trophy has gone for another season - and I haven't got that many left.
