I enjoy them, and I have asked for advice before. Lots of well travelled people on here, which is a great resource for insider knowledge - indispensable when you're away, and marginally less moronic than TripAdvisor.
That's fair enough - if people look to this kind of advice and find they get some useful replies on here, that's fine. Personally, I freely admit to having no interest in recommendations for a good bar/restaurant in a place I've never been to, and am very unlikely ever to visit - but no way do such threads irritate me, nor do I call for them to be banned.
I just hit the 'ignore thread' button.
I've found strolling around the place you're staying and, as a last resort, asking locals, to have served me well over the last few years.
Yep, that's my approach to visiting somewhere I don't know too - it works fine for me. But live and let live, each to his own.

I recently spent two weeks in Höör as a dog sitter and was thinking about making a thread about pubs in Höör showing the games.

I never did. And also didn't go to a pub in Höör. Thats the penalty I got for being too shy to ask for advice.

Long live the "anyone know a pub in rural Kazaksthan" stuff!
Next time just Google "Hoor dog sit piss up" and see what the Internet throws up.
