Well I loved the overall experience.
Great old ground with an excellent view(from VU3 anyway).
Town centre location, close to station, lots of pubs. After the match I had a pint in one of the pubs and ended up chatting with an Ipswich fan while we watched Utd wriggle out of an embarrassing result.
Then went onto Distilled Rebublik as recommended by our Ipswich visitor to NSC this week - thanks again. We agreed they(Ipswich) werevery poor tonight - he thinks it’s between them and Wolves to join Leicester and Saints. I hope they stay up as it’s a great away trip.
My first live win for ages! Makes the journey back SO much better
Now back at Stansted for flight back before regrouping for Sunday.
Had a lovely chat with an Albion fan in pub before the game - the first I’ve ever met who admits to being on NSC!
I was genuinely ‘so excited’!

I think Pedro was very very lucky not to get a red card. He should have been sent off.
A couple of years ago Xhaka knocked out Schelotto with a challenge where the shoulder connected to the face. Xhaka didn't get a red card. It reminds me of the Pedro challenge tonight.
Intent shouldn't play a part in this, it's simply dangerous. In rugby a shoulder to head challenge is a red card, regardless of intent because its dangerous. You watch the challenge, and his shoulder clearly hits Walton in the head. I can't see how that's anything other than a red.

I don't think it was a red, but definite yellow. Pedro is now developing a reputation, so won't be surprised if one comes his way sometime this season. Fab (and Bobby Z) need to have a word with him to tone it down a bit

Like I say, shoulder to head is dangerous. I know it's not the rule, but that should be an automatic red.
It's bizarre that rugby, a sport that's more physical and allows a certain level of rough housing, acknowledges that Pedros challenge would be a red card. But in football its left open to interpretation.

I thought FH was very wise to set-up with 3 central midfielders in the first half with the emphasis on control and not conceding a break away goal.
It was clear to see that he’d realised that if we were to win the match, it would be in the 2nd half when the Ipswich block was tiring and less disciplined with their attacking players thinking they could get something out of the game and not tracking back as much as they did in the first half.
Go back and read the posts before our first.
I enjoy reading one after a win, but when I got to half time I thought I must have the wrong thread.

Ipswich reminded me of our first season in the PL. You could easily swap out Hutchinson for Knocky who was their most lively player.
Eventually the two quality players in the away side probably worth over £100m between them show the class and it’s game over.
Their star man Delap was in Veltman’s pocket and you slump off home thinking the journey to the PL was a much better experience than actually being here.

good analysis - I agree, and we capitalized by using 3 at the back for much of the second half. There were a lot of noticeable in-game switches too, and less apparent chaos. The opposition compliantly rolled over too ....

I wasn't sure who was signing that to who!
Have to use this win as a springboard now. Forget the horrendous run and focus on the good elements of the performance to get the morale up. This squad is very capable just been unlucky with injuries and needs some fine tuning with game management and a bit of a kick up the ass to focus more.
9th place. Or, as I like to think of it "Graham Potter's highest finish, only with a far better midfield".

Enjoyable night overall at Portman Road. Love the bantz and singing from our fans (except for the twats that upset the stewards by refusing to sit down and nearly kicking off.)
Lack lustre first half from both teams - O’Riley’s footwork, physique and speed is still lacking imo so I wonder if he is still carrying ankle problems? Mitoma struggled to attack the space with Ipswich sitting deep in the first half but was excellent in tracking back and made some really important defensive interceptions. We lacked intensity in the press and were in danger of letting The Blues get momentum over the game when we thankfully scored. I was absolutely wrapped for Mitoma - an excellent confidence booster for him and a game changer for us - Ipswich opened up and had no choice but to press higher.
After that, we started playing with more belief. Georginio (what a frickin amazing ‘singing’ he’s turning out to be!) making a major impact off the bench. The more I watch Baleba play, the more I see the potential he has to even supersede Caicedo’s level. Bart made a few really important saves. To a man, I think I saw more team cohesion on the pitch in that second half last night than I have seen all season which gives me hope it’s all coming together.
Good subs from FH - he’s bedding in youngsters while managing some key injuries yet developing a distinctive style of football - one that overloads attacking players on to the ball and is both positionally and tactically fluid that leaves the opposition standing still..
I honestly think, when we manage a full 90 minutes of what we were doing in the second half and when Minteh, Georginio, Hinsh and March are back to peak condition, any team is going to struggle to find answers when we play them at our best.
(EDIT - shout out to The Blues CAM, no.20, Omari Hutchinson - very very impressed by him and he is one player I’d definitely poach - TB are you watching!?)
