Except….

However, Blackrock, a major investment management firm, has been actively investing in and acquiring farmland in the UK: Blackrock is launching a £100m hedge fund to buy up farmland across Britain .24 Nov 2024
any real source, looks a lot like a social media invention.

I see. A sort of conspiracy between civil servants, and HMG to build on farmland.
Presumably with massive back handers to the Labour party from 'Black rock'?
Or maybe family members of the cabinet are on the board of Black Rock?

If all this is true then it should deservedly bring down the government.

If only bits of it are true (the bits not involving family members of HMG making a fat wedge, or HMG allowing speculators to breach planning rules) then it would look like Labour meeting their election pledges.

Which is nice.

Unless you add in that Labour have made poor farmers pay a bit of inheritance tax in order to push them over the edge and into selling their farms for a pittance to developers. In other words a conspiracy of sorts.

I wonder what @abc (for I think it is he who as Insights) thinks.

I don’t think the Labour government are responsible at all, I was trying to point out that it is the very grey area of the mandarins that seems questionable if anything is.

You are always with the drama😆 - I certainly didn’t claim there were backhanders at all …

In the positive side, I’ve just found the entire episodes of TopCat and Wacky Racers on my “3.00kickoffstick” 😎

Government and local authorities have compulsory powers to buy any land for development whether roads or housing. So I can’t see why they would go to these lengths.

Personally I think the change to the farming IHT rules are just a massive misjudgement by Reeves who miscalculated both the farmer and public reaction along with the minimal financial gain. I don’t think she is clever enough to have come up with this conspiracy theory.

IF it’s true, it’s not the government who will end up owning the land it’s the biggest financial institution in the world- who already own 15% of UK holdings apparently

I was just seeing if I could construct a working model. It isn't what I believe.

I don't understand things unless they are spelled out. If there are gaps in the narrative I try to fill them but am literally clueless. It's the autism.

Glad we are back to cordial, however

Top Cat is awesome. But I found Wacky Races gave me cartoon repetitive strain injuries

I think @beorhthelm is correct, it’s a lie made up on social media last autumn.

It may well be - well the civil service side of it might, the Blackrock holdings are public knowledge.

When I first heard about the wish list though I did think back to when all the Labour leaders came out against WFA when in opposition - only for the Tories to say they had no intention of cutting it. Is it possible it was mooted by Treasury officials then and then put aside?

Nothing really to see here even if it is all how it happened but I do find the machinations of government fascinating and that’s why I posted it.

From what I can see the Blackrock-Starmer ‘corruption’ thing is silly. Made up by a nerd in a Moscow disinformation office.

Respectfully, imho don’t be drawn in. Fight winnable arguments.

It was the highest risk on the risk register for the country. I imagine the same sort of people who don’t bother turning up for Cobra Meetings about possible pandemics are the same sort that say this of thing…

In later notes from December 2020, Sir Patrick wrote that Mr Johnson said his party "thinks the whole thing is pathetic and Covid is just nature's way of dealing with old people - and I am not entirely sure I disagree with them".

Yes - this was a huge crisis for the Country, but perhaps out of all the PMs in the last few centuries, only Truss could have had a chance of ****ing it up as much as Boris ‘the trolley’ Johnson. He was never fit to be an MP yet alone a PM.
Which should all be looked at in the inquiry.

bit of good news today

extract from an article

Traders are ramping up bets on the Bank of England cutting interest rates this year after official figures showed a surprise fall in inflation last month.

Money markets are pricing in two reductions to borrowing costs this year, compared to just one on Tuesday, after the consumer prices index fell to 2.5pc in December.

Traders are now betting there is an 85pc chance of a cut next month, up from odds of 64pc on Tuesday, which would take interest rates from 4.75pc to 4.5pc.

The cost of government borrowing has fallen after the decline in inflation, easing pressure on Rachel Reeves after rising bond yields raised questions about her ability to meet her fiscal rules.

Makes me wonder who this is a “surprise” to? Surely not the Government, Treasury, B of E, Economists, Banks, etc who spend £millions supposedly keeping their finger on the pulse.

Jo Public and the tabloids I suppose.

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
Thanks for highlighting the Eton development, first I've heard of their proposals near East Chiltington.
That constituency actually voted for LDs James MacCleary at the last election, so would have limited relevance in any further General Election swing.

If you have any further links of how development decisions are being made I'd be interested, it appears to me all the Party's are against it and rejected?
The answer came back this morning, as below.

Eton New Town development is not in the local open call for sites. It was deemed as unsuitable for development a while ago so can't go in even as a possible.

Inflation down today.

Can we have confirmation that that is nothing to do with the Government but when it goes up, it is?

Works both ways though, if the Government claim it’s not their fault when markets move against them - they can’t claim credit when they move in their favour

Regardless of political shenanigans- todays news is certainly welcome 👍
