If it went down to one traitor, then there'd be a compulsory recruitment. The last traitor would have to pick someone, and they'd have to accept.
Trig, you can't force someone to be a traitor can you? It's up to them.

Linda is hilarious in how she's just bumbling through. She clearly doesn't understand the game (if she did, she would have voted for Dan tonight as it was clearly either him or her).
At the end it’s just Linda sitting there on her own, utterly baffled and unaware she’s just won the game

Yes they can. I think they did it in the first season.

Now someone could choose to leave the show instead, in which case they'd leave, and someone else would get recruited. Otherwise you could have zero traitors left, and no murders because all traitors have gone, and the show ends.

To me that would be perverting the whole point of the programme.

Unfortunately, the primary point of the program is not for the traitors and faithfuls to do battle until there is a winner, the primary point of the program is to entertain the audience. Having the show end after three days because all the faithfuls are smart is impressive, but short lived entertainment.

I get that. But I'd object to someone being forced to be a traitor if they didn't want to be.

I'd object more strongly if the season ended early because there were no traitors.

Also, at the start of each series, they choose a few traitors. If no one wants to be a traitor, they're still chosen to be a traitor.

Aha. But when Claudia asks them to swear allegiance to the traitors cause, soon after they're chosen - they could just
say "no, fu** off I don't want to be one".

At which point Claudia calls over a member of the production team saying 'Could you explain the concept of a TV show to Livi please, then we'll do it again'.

When applying to go on the show, they've probably already agreed that they may have to play the part or a faithful or traitor, and they accept that.

Fair enough.

That was just bizarre. What was she thinking?

That's why it's not a big deal to try and get all the traitors early - there's a never ending supply of them.
That's the one weakness of the format. If they were successful in getting rid of the traitors every week, it would only last three episodes so they would have to keep recruiting new ones.

Exactly.

"Faithfuls - your job is to get rid of the traitors."
"Not really Claudia, you'll just recruit new ones."

Our job is to identify the traitors and keep quiet until we're nearly at the end.

Yup. I gained a little more respect for Livi after watching the Uncloaked episode where she made it clear she'd cosied up to Linda on the assumption she was a Traitor and it would help keep her safe. Which it did, for a while, and really should have longer term as well; I still think Minah and Linda made a mistake rushing to get rid of both Livi and Freddie. That dynamic was creating enough fuss and bother that it could be used for masking themselves longer term.

Having said that, the herd mentality chasing after the latest "X did Y they're clearly a Traitor!" emotional-driven thinking at the round table and forgetting their more considered logical thinking from before the round table is doing the job for them (ie The Traitors) remarkably well. With even an ounce of discipline Linda would have been gone last episode.

I was surprised Lisa's name didn't come up again. She said that she couldn't lie or deceive because she was a priest, and then she did exactly that in the task. They are surprisingly gullible. How do they know she's not bluffing?
