What makes me question this is that the price we bid was supposedly €23m and not that far off Palmeiras's rumoured asking price.

Now City come in with €40m? Why would they do that? Surely not even City are stupid enough to just splurge an extra £10m+, and on an unproven teenage CB no less.

If Fabs figure is right it’s a package up to €40 million. That doesn’t mean they’re paying €40 million up front. Doesn’t seem that odd to me.
Seems he’s now agreed personal terms.
Typical that we miss out on the two defenders we’ve had firm interest in.

The Athletic wording regarding their bid for Reis is "valuing the 18 year old at upwards of £25m (€30.1m)".

Not sure this is 'typical'.
That would make it sound like we are incompetent.
Perhaps you mean 'annoying'?
With apologies, there is no nuance (for me, anyway) in blank text.

Exactly. It’s f***ing bollocks like 99.9% of transfer rumours.

Hmmm. I think if City want to repair their squad, about the last thing they need is a CB for the future. They need a striker and some dynamism in CM as a priority.
Looks like Fab stirring to me.
They might be expecting a significant transfer ban soon. I think they are filling the coffers whilst they still can. This one could happen tomorrow sadly:

Well at least it’s easier to take than Stephen Ward was…

the fact that citeh aren't even subject to a transfer embargo at this point is a joke.
In all honesty, if I were any player I'd want to make darned sure that the club doesn't end up in league one within 6 months before signing any contract. It's that same with Barcelona. I know they're a grand club with great history etc but, come on, at least make sure they have a chance of registering you before joining them.

And I just wonder if players that City are signing are now insisting on this as a clause. Relegation allows them to leave for a minimal fee.

The agents really aren't doing their job if not

Why would Reis be worried?
If they get relegated, and they won’t, they’ll win the league with record points next season. Nice season bedding in for a young player, ideal.

I guess the lad is in the position, where any number of clubs are interested in him, all but 1 of them have no prospect of being in the lower leagues for a season or two.

In my (ok, disturbed) mind it's like you could pick out anyone from the beauty pageant, but girl 5 may or may not have the clap. You go for one of the others right?

There's literally* no chance of Man City being in League One next season.

There is some chance they could be in the Championship.

City have spent relatively little in terms of transfer fees ( net spend) over the past two/ three years and so they can now go big over the coming 12 months. It’s not as if they can’t afford to either. The surprise for me is that they seem to have targeted two relatively expensive defenders when they seem to have plenty of defenders already. They seem much weaker in midfield and the attacking department.

Genuine question, IF Man City were demoted to the Championship as punishment, would one less team be relegated from the Prem or would one extra team be promoted from the Championship to keep the PL with 20 clubs?
