Do we have an option to extend or is he free to discuss options with other clubs from tomorrow?

I guess whatever option the club takes here, his recent performances have provided more value to each option.

Tariq Lamptey over the course of the last year has grown into expand his game to be less pace reliant. He is one of the best (probably the best) at crossing the ball and make runs more with his brain than his legs.

He's also 24-year-old player with persistent injury problems and who needs to have his "game time managed", which shouldn't be much of a thing when going into your peak years.

While I do believe he is a good squad player for us now I don't think his contract will or should be extended. It'll be absolutely heartbreaking as I love the guy, but imho thats the way forward. He's good but not quite good enough for us to pick him over a right back reinforcement, especially with his fitness concerns in mind.

Love Tariq. I remember when he first came to us, the excitement he gave, a real get you up out of your seat player.
Been very unlucky with injuries and now getting back to his best (albeit a slightly different player that doesn't have the insane pace of his early years)
As has been mentioned earlier probably THE best crosser of a ball in our team.
Seems a good character to have in the dressing room as well.
I think he still has a part to play in the future but more as a forward player than a defender.

Only on NSC could you have the season’s most efficient attacking player dividing opinion so starkly.

In fairness, his season has been mixed.

Earlier on he had some pretty shocking performances in defence - poor decisions and slow tracking back.

He was always good progressing up the wing (which is why a system of predominantly using the left channels to progress the ball out from the back, never really show cased his talents when he was stuck in RB) Lately, FH (not particularly so beholden to positions apparently) seems to be allowing him to play much higher (to the point we might as well be 3 at the back).

It suits him better I think and his attacking play lately has been impressive (like the old Lamptey) but defensively, it’s still questionable whether he is a long term solution in defence - especially when VH also seems to be a bit weak covering ground on the right side.

And there I was thinking Welbeck has been our most consistent attacking player this season.
He’s been our most consistent forward certainly.

I don’t think it’s unfair on the rest to say TL is currently our best option at both RWB AND RW. I’d also rather have an unfit March or one of our central defenders as our RB over him. That’s the problem he is facing.
If Fab wants to mostly play wing backs it makes sense to keep him, contract dependent.
If not, he’d be very effective as our right winger. However, playing right- footed right wingers doesn’t seem to be the done thing these days AND he’d be another bloody right winger. It doesn’t look like there’s any plans to loan out Minteh or Gruda so where exactly does TL fit moving forward, especially with March gaining fitness?
I like TL, I like the different option and skillset he provides, but I think he’s probably one of the players most likely to leave this month. If not I’d be very surprised if he’s here next season.

I am pretty disgusted with how opposition players were allowed to cut him down early in his career. The cynical way they dealt with his speed and agility and the lack of punishment from the refs have put a massive dampener on what could have been an absolutely stellar career. That being said he is beginning to re-invent himself under Fab, playing smart football and only relying on his speed when absolutely necessary. A few times against Villa he got back astonishingly quickly to defend. Hopefully, we will extend his contract, he is interchangeable with Solly, which given both their injury woes will come in pretty handy when managing both their careers.
