Haha usually you are pretty spot on. Not this time. Villa tried to bully us and played the game at a million miles an hour at times which tactically would usually work , but we dug in and showed great spirit.
Indeed. Villa Park has been a very tough place to pick up points since Emery took over. That was far from our worst performance of the season. Palace and Saints at home for a start. And I found itentertaining rather than frustrating, which has been the case often this season

I've seen enough this season to really think we must be patient with FH. We're tough to beat (despite looking fragile at times) and I like that he's versatile and not stubborn with one way of playing. We have a lot of injuries and a very young squad. We're not doing badly to be where we are in the table

The dull part of the south coast
Still two lost after we took the lead, again! If we had gone behind first, it would have been a point gained. This is my opinion which, in the grand scheme of things, is not worth worrying over
Being slightly pedantic here, but that penalty should never have been awarded which would have meant that Villa’s Rogers had equalised rather than taking the lead and Tariq scored the winner. On that basis then we never went behind and would have snaffled all three points. I will continue to dream on.

It could be argued that pedro shouldn't even have been on the pitch, after his petulent behaviour against brentford, but there you go!

Ayari and a Baleba did fantastically well because yet again they are getting outnumbered in the midfield and worked their socks off. Just wish Hurzeler would realise that adding a third midfielder, particularly at the expense of Enciso would make a huge difference and make us a far better and stronger team. O’Riley could play that third midfield role really well and still provide a good attacking threat.
good point. I thought that was what o'riley was for.

We have been fortunate this season with VAR decisions. Thinking back to Everton’s disallowed penalty, Man Utd’s offside goal, the same with Southampton and Brentford’s chalked off goal last week.

Got a point from what was without a doubt one of our worst performances this season. Maybe the worst.
I know you don’t get to live matches but were you even watching us yesterday on a laptop?

I saw some of the best individual performances this season - noteably from Lamptey and Adingra. We defended very well at times - We pushed back against an aggressive/physical team and before the disallowed penalty were looking if not comfortable, certainly not outplayed. In contrast to some other performances this season, we did not fold or lose intensity in the second half which meant an equaliser followed by several more chances in a tightly fought box to box finish.

The subs Fab brought on made an impact and we scored two good goals (contrary to one of AV‘s goals been gifted by us as a pen)

We still need to put in a consistent performance as a team for a full 90 mins but it was definitely NOT ‘one of the worst performances this season’.

The quality of our 2 goals alone make it definitely not our worst performance of the season. It was a high tempo, frenetic game in which they pressed very aggressively, which didn't make us look great at times but we defended well in backs to the wall style for quite long periods when they were dominating midfield (despite Baleba's defiance). We had them on the ropes for much of the last 20 minutes.
This was not a bad performance.
Oi. Get your grammar right. These were not a bad performance.

Only o’Riley has yet to show that when he’s started, but yes an adjustment in that area would help…… hopefully Hinshelwood

Really? Were you there? I’m not having a go but reading loads of Villa fan comments they reckon we were pretty decent.
No I wasn't there, I watched it on a screen, bit like our analysts, coaching staff and players normally does (maybe not now due to the hectic schedule) when they want deeper insight to what was going on on the pitch.

I'm not interested in what Aston Villa (or Brighton fans or Troy Deeney or Garth Crooks or Tutankhamun or Boris Johnson or Moder Teresa) "think/feel/find under the couch", I'm interested in how we played (which can only be understood through ignoring the emotional impact from the positive end result) and both the numbers and what I saw indicate that we were poor.

Teams performing at our level yesterday generally lose the game. If we play like yesterday for 38 games, we will lose the vast majority of them. And thats why I see little reason to be overly happy about anything than the nice point.

Dunk looked assured with excellent positioning.

Tariq was excellent although didn’t like his sliding tackle in the area unlike others.

Great subs to counter a dreadful first 10-12 minutes of the second half.

Emery looked pained a lot.

Feels like a much better draw than the other 8!

I didn't go - and we got a point.

We are unbeaten in away games I have missed this season. (W2 D1)
My record at away games attended is W1, D3, L3

Good news and bad news, I'm not going to United, but I am going to Ipswich, Forest (and Norwich)

I might need to reassess my plan to go to Southampton, Brentford, Palace & Spurs, if we lose at Ipswich or Norwich

And our goals were both great to watch and from open play.
Pretty much all our goals are from open play: how often do we score from set pieces? When we last scored from a corner, it was the opposition who put the ball in the net for us.
