Really? You think our young German could totally change the way we played under CH quicker than GP did? He’s struggling to adapt to PL football with a much better squad than GP ever had imo

GP came to us from Swansea, he had management experience in British football before he was appointed, and he got 18 months before he meaningfully turned things around in a way that was reliably getting results.

I agree with you that our squad has largely higher potential than the squad GP had to work with (possibly Caicedo and Ali Mac excluded) but we have bought a whole bunch of young prospects to turn into PL players, players don’t arrive PL ready.

We’re asking this coach to turn young players from potential PL players to established PL players, and do it while building a successful team and integrating a lot of new faces. For me, he deserves our respect. We’re going to lose and draw football matches along the way.

I’m not saying anyone has to (or should) enjoy that, just that a bit of patience and a bit of balance is needed.

Football we played under RDZ was the most scintillating football that any Brighton team have played
Potter only came good at the end of almost 3 years
For some on here it would require a miracle for them to even admit that Potter did come good - which he certainly did. Two and a half years to get there? - yes, that was the project, the development, the entire repositioning of the team from CH's (very necessary at the time) 'Defend like mad and hope to pinch a goal' policy to the exciting, attacking team that RDZ took over.

The Astral Planes, man...
We were sooo slow tonight, Verbruggen what was he doing holding on to the ball for so long. It's frustrating and another 2 points dropped. All good except final 3rd. When we play inverted wingers they always seem to hit the ball with their weaker foot in good positions.

Had to laugh when someone in the crowd shouted 'Book Him' when Verbruggen stopped the game for the umpteenth time.

Spent the second half with the match on in the background while my wife, daughter and me all finished off a tricksy 1,000 piece David Attenborough themed jigsaw.

I have to say, it made the match much more bearable.

I thought the first half performance was very good. Brentford clearly changed their tactics second half and went man for man. Crowd were getting understandably frustrated by the disruptive tactics by Brentford that stopped the game but I think need to get behind the team more. A few instances were Verbrugen had no one to pass to and crowd booing him for putting his foot on the ball and waiting for the press. Would they really rather he kicked it long to Enciso??

I think teams have found out how to play against us at home - go man for man and dont let us play though the lines. Clear to me is we are missing someone to hold up the ball. Mad to try to get enciso to do this. We really need to get Evan starting for a few games to do this. He also is by far our best finisher but he needs time and patience to get confidence back.

This was the crucial mistake for me.

We were doing well up to Welbeck's injury and the obvious answer was just replacing Danny with Evan, keeping the same system of playing a no 9. We would have obviously not been as effective as Evan needs some game time but I'm pretty sure we would have had more points now.

Instead we've changed things to play with a false 9 and it's not working.

And we've still got an Evan Ferguson who hasn't had enough game time to get up to speed.

I hope you kept the receipt as that looks absolutely nothing like David Attenborough.

Pretty disappointed. Team isn’t a team right now, and that buck stops with the manager. In the rut we’re in, his youth will be counting against him amongst players no question of that. Especially amongst the forward players tonight, we looked like a bunch of solo acts thrown together and told they were a choir. As others have repeatedly said, we don’t have enough leaders. Too many teenage types who look more likely to call their agents than demand better from teammates. Not much spirit about this Albion side, it feels lacking.

Have you forgotten our run of 11 games without a win under GP?

Most clubs would have fired him, and he repaid that faith by effing off to Chelsea with most of our coaching staff...

I liked seeing Enciso out there and at least trying to make things happen. But for a couple of inches on that shot that hit the post, it would've been a very different game.

Love his enthusiasm, but he needs to be trained to focus better in front of goal and not snatch at chances.

I'm sure our coaches will get him where he needs to be. When in front of goal, you should pass it all the way back to the keeper. Obviously.

Enjoyed a rare visit to the Amex this evening tonight despite performances and damp and cold.

We played pretty well but given the number of times we were in their penalty area it should have been 3:0 at least.
Pervis leaving gaping holes at the back was a continuous worry. Pedro was ineffective, Enciso hoofing it repeatedly at the goal but somehow managing to keep it out - Van Hecke was impressive - I said at half time, if I were a GK, I would be happy to have VH in front of me.

Right tactic - to come out fighting and pressing hard with a high defensive line in the hope of an early goal and to prevent Brentford getting an early momentum but I thought it was very risky and said so 5 minutes before we got caught with our pants down and Brentford countered - lucky in the offside VAR decision and they were caught in the offside trap.

Poor second half.

Can’t believe we did’t bring on Fergie given the desperately awful finishing tonight - he seriously wouldn’t have done worse but has the innate talent of a natural striker that could have resulted in him just pulling it out of the bag. EDIT forgot he wasn’t on the bench - had a brief look at subs in car several hours earlier and that was it 🙄

Really missed having Welbz at the front - Rutter shines with Welbeck, Rutter doesn’t without him.

Glad I went if only to see Solly get a standing ovation to finally get back on the pitch after a brutal 14 months absence and see him make an attempt on goal cutting inside from his old No 7 position despite coming on at RB. It’s going to take weeks for him to manage 90 mins but what a great start.
