The thing is you're posting this on a forum based around Brighton, a place where there's a massive live music culture.

So many impressive bands come here and that breeds desire to actually see good live bands.

Coldplay are not that.
No offence intended but your last sentence is absolute bollocks! Not a good live band? Really :lolol: You may not like them but they are a very good live band.

Brighton has been music snob central from the day I arrived there in 1975 and it seems nothing has changed

I remember Dire Straits getting the same brickbats as Coldplay do now from the “cool dudes” of Brighton once they became massive, when they started out they were loved down here.

Coldplay are not a good live band, they're particularly average.

The performance has nothing that the studio record doesn't and is worse.

An excellent live band will be better than the studio recording through stage presence, mixing and performance.

There's a reason Gojira are the best live band on the planet.

For continuity's sake, although I've already posted the Red Rocks performance (perhaps my favourite live performance of all time), here's the Bloodstock video of Gojira, the best live band on the planet.

Heavy Metal? I’m OUT

You love them, I would be out the door in five mins listening to that

You call it snobby whereas most in Brighton call it alternative.

On the whole, Brighton is an alternative city that likes alternative things. Why are you expecting it and it's ('cool dude'*) residents to embrace mainstream pap like later years Coldplay and Dire Straights. Once things get accepted by the mainstream Brighton has usually moved on. One of the great things about the city for me.

You call it snobby whereas most in Brighton call it alternative.

*for some reason the cool dudes in inverted commas really made me laugh.

This is true and I have mentioned it on here before.

There were actually people that bought Brothers in Arms because it was so popular but couldn’t name any of the previous albums :lolol:
All the previous albums were much better than BIA imo.

 :lolol:

Knocking Coldplay is cool. ‘Nuff said

Shit bands don’t sell out concerts worldwide by being shit

Music snob alert, no surprise this site is full of people like you.

Coldplay ARE amazing live and yes I have been to hundreds of live concerts, not so many recently though in truth

Most over rated band in their prime? Probably the Stones once Mick Taylor left
It’s such a subjective and varied thing, I couldn’t name my favourite live band. That said, I have been to a number of gigs which have been utterly magical but these were due to a number of stars aligning as well as a great performance from the band.

As for the Stones, seen them a number of times and only post Taylor; they’ve always been hugely entertaining and great performers.

Not my usual fayre but one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen was Flaming Lips at the BC, circa 2006.

Giant Sand were also fantastic at T.O.M

The best band I have ever seen live was Rollins Band on the Get Some Go Again tour when he was playing with Mother Superior.
Jesus! That band could f***ing play!!

Other notables I’ve seen are

Soundgarden
Jane’s Addiction
Hooray For The Riff Raff
Sonic Youth
Beastie Boys
Faith No More

Endless really, and depends on the night. I’ve seen bands who are alleged to put on a great show which were “meh” at best.
Chili Peppers were dogshit both times I saw them and I walked out of a U2 concert I was so bored.
But I’m certain they have had amazing shows.

I guess looking at my list, my dislike of Coldplay is fairly obvious 🤣

My daughter, who has very good taste, went to see Nick Cave a couple of weeks ago and said it was possibly the best gig she’s ever been to. She is 42 and her companion used to own and run a record label.

Ahh FFS

Don’t like heavy metal so I have no appreciation of Musicmanship. It gets worse, I don’t like Electronic music either.
It's not just about heavy metal, it's about appreciating good musicians.

Coldplay can round out okay musical ability with okay lyric writing but have somehow become massive and the crowd will feed off that.

They don't have much stage presence, aren't playing anything complex live and the vocals are nothing incredible. It's just a whole lot of average for me.

Electronic music is something completely different and live you go for the vibes more than to see a live performance.

Abu Dhabi
My dear old mum loves Coldplay so when she visited Abu Dhabi we got tickets to see them on New Years Eve. Now they were never anywhere near the top of the list of bands I wanted to see. They put on a superb show, loads of energy, slick set and familiar tunes. I can genuinely understand why they are so popular and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Have I listened deliberately listened to a Coldplay song since? Nah! Not a big fan but they have my respect.

Two of my best concerts are from bands who can also be disastrous.

Stone Roses in Melbourne, literally first half wad terrible and the second half was out of this world.

Brian Jones Town Massacre - incredible when I saw them and a disaster last year in Melbourne.

You can add Ride and Paul Weller to my list too.

To be fair Dire Straights are f***ing brilliant. Top musicians and would have loved to have seen them in their prime.
Yes indeed. They were a bit middle of the road by my formative years though. BIA played to death.

Great band though.
